Any possibility of Ament returning for 2nd year?

Yeah, I don't believe that guy has any insider knowledge whatsoever.

But I'd like to think that Ament is at least toying with the idea. He has to know that he wasn't alpha enough this past season. If he came back, I feel like he could be something really special now that he understands what it takes. Those injuries may make him think he should start his NBA clock asap, though.
If this is true (big if), it’s the same hesitation we often saw on the court. Before his injury he was starting to show less hesitation and that’s the NA I hope we see moving forward, whether at UT or the NBA.

Nate is 6'10" but too frail to stand up to the pounding he will take in the NBA. He does not handle the ball like a guard and was not quick enough to beat many people off the dribble in SEC play. His best moves were to catch the ball in close and try to back his man down and get close enough to hit a fallaway jumper. Moves better without the ball and could get to good spots to get off a short jumper off a pass. Not a +defender or rebounder in the SEC. Michigan bullied him pretty easily and while he was hampered somewhat by the ankle, other teams did that to a lesser degree during the year.

He is still slated to be a midround 1st round draft pick so he will take the money but his minutes in NBA play will be limited by his physical liabilities next year. May even spend time in the G-League. A good strength program and better nutrition will get him to where he needs to be. Should grow into being an NBA starter over the next 2-3 years.
I agree with your points but where is the S&C more likely to happen?

1. College where he has to go to class, get decent grades, has limits on coaching involvement and plenty of distractions that come with college life, or

2. NBA with no limits and getting better is your job and only focus.

You had to stay that long back then.
Isiah Thomas and Magic Johnson only played Freshmen and Sophomore seasons in College before declaring for NBA draft.

Most players stayed three seasons but it wasn't a rule and no neither Thomas or Magic Redshirted their freshmen year.

I am pretty sure since online classes have existed, any high major athletes not interested in the academics part take majority online classes and just have someone else do the coursework. And I know this because I've seen it first hand.

1. I doubt he was ever bogged down with school work. Access the best of foods, top of the line S&C equipment and coaches, plus BMOC and on the team.
2. If he stays with the NBA team, you are absolutely correct. If he is sent to the G League like almost every other UT player that has been drafted in the last 8 years, he will not get that kind of attention.

Your points are fair but he could probably get at least $4m next year at UT, get bigger and stronger, be a certain lottery pick next year and his bonus and first contract would be much larger. I don't think he is even considering that and at that age, I wouldn't either, but.....

Mock drafts have him all over the board. I have seen as high as 8th and as low as "late first, early second". I wish him well whatever he chooses.

Half my freshman sons classes have been online as there are too many students and not enough teachers or classroom time. He hates online and we don’t expect to have to do so many. Even his English 201 class requirement has to be skipped as there were no spots in class or online.

Darryl Dawkins of the 76 ers didn’t even go to college to play. Straight nba. This was late 70s too

So, 75% of these mocks think he's fallen out of the top 12. And you think that HELPS the argument that he shouldn't return?
Top 14 picks are the lottery, of which 75%* of these mocks say that he's a lottery pick, and you think that HELPS the argument that he should return?

I'll put my signed, graded Peyton RC that he doesn't come back....what you got? Hell, I'll not just put it on the line whether or not he leaves, but that HE WILL be a lottery pick.

*funny how you can make numbers fit an agenda huh?

I do, yes. He was a top six pick not that long ago, and he started the year as a top four pick.

Even allowing for all that, Ament's stock is clearly in decline, which is why I said earlier that he'll need a strong draft season and NBA Combine to restore his value. In this draft in particular, teams are seeking different-making alphas. Guys who haven't shown that they are alphas are in danger of dropping. Right now, that's unfortunately Ament.

To a larger point, mock drafts are stubborn creatures that only grudgingly accept changing circumstances. To wit, the NFL Draft is in two weeks, and yet you can pick any mock draft. It won't have 25 out of the 32 first round picks correct. Some of those players will still be the "BPA" in the third round because the mock draft people don't know how to evaluate talent. With NBA mock drafts, it takes a LOT to move someone off a previous opinion. So, it's much more concerning that Ament is sliding. I don't -think- he'll fall out of the teens, but I also wouldn't bet my life on it.

No chit.

My point remains, put up or shut up. I've said what I''ll wager. What you got?

**also love the Alpha moniker from you people 🤣

So what do you do if he asks for first year NBA money? Do you pay him 6 or 7 million to stay one more year? Seems he would have to at least match what he’s going to lose by going to the league early.

Ament's NBA declaration isn't due until April 16, probably watching the portal with the early declarations for the draft with his team of advisors. He'll have the ability to participate in the combine and other draftee events with the declaration but may still withdraw the draft election on or before May 27, with the draft in June after the NBA finals.

A move in the portal doesn't seem likely, the NBA dollars should exceed most portal dollars, but there are some dicey NBA franchise teams sprinkled through the first 16 draft choices and that could impact a decision to stay put for another year camped out in a no income tax state.

lol Vols have full support to go to 20 million if necessary. They can outpay anyone in college this year. DW is not an idiot. He has already gone to big boosters to see what they need from him to get Vols over the top.

Vols have more money hate to tell you.
Yes. I doubt he returns based on all information I’ve been given but it won’t be bc he’s playing for someone else in CBB. He’s a Barnes guy and we can also afford him.

But he’s gone to the nba I’m afraid for us.
