Yep, it ended up an asswhipping but we looked good in the first quarter. Let's get some positive comments in here. I thought the run game looked good for what we have at this time. Cooper played through the pain and showed a lot of heart.

What positives can you add?

Agree with post above, we gave it our all. While there is still stuff that needs to be cleaned up, I believe we will improve as the season goes on. For the future, all we need is more depth on the lines, offensive line specifically, and steady quarterback play. Wouldn’t hurt to develop some good wide receivers either.

Defense looked like they knew what they were doing, just couldn’t always execute.

Offense was very dangerous the entire game, despite the rough performances especially on the line. The upside to this offense is that it only takes one play to score from anywhere on the field, and they finally really proved it.

Kick coverage was very disciplined. Kicking was only ok, with a missed FG and a shanked punt, but our guys did not leave their lanes for the most part and there was nowhere to run.

lots of positives

team looks better and we lost half the team and have a completely new coaching staff
Hooker looked better so he's improving
our defense plays hard... actually the whole team plays hard (some too hard for too long... Mays looking at you lol)
we need depth, we were tired the second half but they don't give up
this coaching staff if getting everything they can out of what we have so far (I think)
receivers are getting open and running lanes our present, we just have to make plays and quit shooting ourselves in the foot
this coach while not perfect, doesn't bs like some of our past ones and knows what he's talking about

Play calling adjusted early to what UF defense was doing. Screen pass to Evans was a great call. Past yrs, Chaney would still be getting his QB killed.

Evans & Small ran very hard when they got to 2nd level.

OL at times looked very physical.

D played hard & appeared well prepared for most part. They should have recognized the double pass play. UF hasn’t played a white WR since Doering for heavens sake.

Biggest positive:

If you subscribe to the theory that coaches make their money at the beginning and end of halves and the talent usually wins out the rest of the time, we weren't embarrased at the beginning and end of halves (outscored 14-7 with a missed FG and a dropped TD). That's much better than the 48-6 we were outscored in Pruitt's 3 years in that same timeframe. I think the coaching is headed the right way.

The downside to that argument is we are a ways away from narrowing the talent gap.

I think if our team hadn't been depleted by key players as well as numerous players leaving us, that game would have been close and we would have had a real chance to win. Our team fought hard for 60 minutes and players like Mays gave their all by trying to gut it out playing hurt. Not sure anyone does that on last year's team. Heupel has changed the culture in a good way and from what I saw, is going to be a good hire for us. Can he get us all the way back, who knows, but let's hope so. I was talking to a player a few weeks ago and he loves Heupel and the chemistry the team has. Night and day from Pruitt.

I believe I heard our running game was more effective than Bama's against them. But, Lord, we paid a price with injuries. I'm wondering if Milton has a chronic problem with his hand which is contributing to his lack of accuracy. I hope these guys don't give up. I think we have a good team, but we don't have all the guys we need to compete for sixty.

I saw some fight and knew that our lack of depth was going to show up in the 2nd half and it did.

Overall I have to admit that I think we are trending the correct direction, but it will be a few more years before we are there.

Biggest needs are a QB and some depth.

But we have what we have and just need to battle to try and get to 6 - 6 for a bowl game and extra practice or at least something to give up in anticipation of NCAA issues.

As this NIL goes on I'm beginning to wonder if there will be any sanctions from the NCAA as we obviously did not gain anything by cheating and I wonder if the NCAA wants out of the football business if they are not thrown out first.

We don't have to be embarrassed by Florida for another year.
Top Ten programs have a way of embarrassing their competition. We had nothing to be embarrassed about in the first half, even challenged them. They took care of business in the second half, we did not.

Despite being the hardest hit program by players jumping into the transfer portal after Pruitt, this team showed flashes of what it can do. I'm trusting the process right now, and expecting progress to follow. We shouldn't be disgusted at this point if/when we drop games to Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Very few, if any, teams could emerge with wins over those top-ranked programs. Much less, a team being rebuilt, like UT. If we don't improve over the next 2-3 seasons, that'll be a problem, but for now, a few more wins each season should be a reasonable expectation.

One more thing...UT is saddled with an Alabama game every single year. No other SEC East team has that delightful distinction. Not our stablemates, Missouri, Kentucky, South Carolina, Vandy. Occasionally, UF and UGA will play the Tide, but in the SEC East, UT is the only team with the spectre of THAT game each and every season! Really challenges Tennessee's overall win total every year. Just sayin'.
