Herring could be the best player in the freshman class by the time they are out of eligibility, but I'd trust a senior LB who is familiar with the scheme and used to Power 5 competition over a true freshman this early in the season. The reason Henry T was starting as a FR is the defense we ran and we literally didn't have any other options. With Herring it's different, we aren't running a 3-4 and Mitchell actually started in front of Banks last night. Herring will be a star, but it's Florida week and he's not like Jamal Lewis at RB where he changes the dynamic of the defense the way Lewis would have on offense in 1997 had Fulmer played him a week earlier. Mitchell is in his 2nd year and has played in a lot of big time college football games. It can happen occasionally, but you don't want to put a freshman LB in that situation unless you have no other option this early in the season.
We aren't back yet, but the case could be made that this is the most important game in recent history. We aren't likely to beat UGA or Bama this year, but even when we have been favoured, Florida has been a yearly albatross around our necks (Thank you Joshua Dobbs, Jauan Jennings, and Derek Barnett for making it a little less painful). This is a must win game for the program to get over the hump and move the program forward. This is our chance to put the Florida curse in the rearview mirror once and for all. Not ready to put all that pressure on a freshman who is incredibly talented, but lacking experience.
