When Cal was on their 5, Antonio Gaines was 10 yards off the receiver, not to mention starting to back up from thier. I noticed this all night. 10 yards off the receiver, then starting to back up before the snap. I never played cornerback, so if someone who knows or has an educated opinion as to why, please post.

Chavis was clearly worried about getting beat deep even on the short field. I don't know. I really can't make any sense of anything we did or didn't do defensively. I don't think I have ever seen a Tennessee defence look that bad. It was embarrassing. I wonder what Ainge is thinking, "I'll have to throw 50 passes every game, and we better put 50 points on the board with no big play reciever or were gonna lose...I should've gone pro."

I remember seeing that play and thinking the same thing.. Gaines was playing too far off. The only explanation i can think of is maybe gaines thought the guy in the slot was running a corner route and he didnt want to get the ball thrown over his head

But our DB's have done it in the past as well. play far off then, then start running backwards before the ball is snapped. Didn't they watch our offense with Meachem catching those short passes? We are going to get burned bad.

I've never really understood why Gaines was starting last night. I never saw anything out of him this offseason that looked like he deserved to be on the 1st team.

Isn't he the same guy who helped put bama in field goal range after giving up that long reception by dj hall in '05?
