The guy 21, admitted to huffing prior to driving.

He was also found guilty of drunk driving in 2014 (at age 17!)

Also had an incident on September 30th and not charged with anything. Sad to think this could have been avoided.

Looks like the one survivor is in a fight for her life with multiple injuries.

"It was not clear why the vehicle veered off the road, but local residents said the road in the area is dangerous, with numerous accidents there.
The victims were not immediately identified, but a relative of a Girl Scout who was not injured in the crash told The Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the girls were fourth-graders at Halmstad Elementary School in Chippewa Falls"

It's a tragedy for sure and hindsight is 20/20 but I seriously have to question what the adults were thinking with 8/9 year old children cleaning a ditch. I understand the idea behind it but I just think is was not a good decision.
Surely there are other things in the community these children could have been involved in.

They weren't standing in the middle of the road.

I realize that, but I also have to agree with Zues on this one. I had a similar situation with my daughters softball team. Coach wanted to clean a stretch of highway as fundraiser, the parents put the kibosh on that real quick.

I think the thing is, you are looking at this as a volunteer opportunity by helping the community stay clean. Most parents aren't going to think oh yeah, my kid is going to get killed by doing that. I did adopt a highway just like this as a girl scout and with my church growing up. In fact, when it was with the church, it was usually a couple different families each time. So it would be my siblings and parents along with other parents and their kids. I think people think in those situations, kids are with adults and doing a good thing, what could happen? Sure now you see a car going off the road, but at the chance of this volunteer opportunity, most are not going to think that.

Exactly. Can't live in fear of everything.

Wake up parents!!!

This was taken by one of our Elkhart UPS drivers today... please make sure your children are not playing in the leaves along the roads.
