I know TN lost yesterday but that is not what this thread about. Before UCLA, the race for quarterback was between Crompton and Stephens and Fulmer chose Crompton. In the two games I've watched Stephens I have to wonder how Crompton won the start in the first place. I would guess that with Stephens starting the season TN doesn't lose to UCLA and they probably could have taken Florida. Which brings us to Ga. With an experienced Stephens Tn doesn't lose yesterday, I don't think. Now to explain my thread title. Fulmer picked Crompton to start the year (Good choice I thought at the beginning but I have to wonder what happened to all the talent Crompton was supposed to have between High School and the UCLA game?) Fulmer kept Crompton as the QB until it was strongly suggested he change and this is what I mean by another strike. Could Fulmer not see the difference between Crompton and Stephens? TN might win next week but the Alabama game depends now on how much Stephens can grow. The team might have a chance now but I stll think it's 60 40 against. Hey, until yesterday I didn't even give them a chance against Alabama or many other teams for that matter.

No way do we beat UF or UGA, even if Stephens started against UCLA, and we have NO shot against Saban and Bama.

Experienced or not, Stephens does not effect all the personal fouls and soft defense we played. He did a fine job

Crompton missed a lot of easy completions in all of his games this year. Stephens would have been a big difference. Also the Florida game should have been a lot closer than it was do to our special team and red zone blunders.

Thanks goodness Phulllllll-mer continued to micromanage the O. Otherwise, we might be looking at a 2009 season with him as coach.

I agree. I can understand a incidental face mask here or there, but to punch someone in the gut or hit someone late on a punt coverage is beyond me. I would much rather get beat deep than to have our CB's playing 11 yards off receivers. WHY

There was no race, fulmer just went with crompton straight from the beginning of spring practice. Too bad he couldn't get over his stubbornness until the 5th game... he's just a hard headed old man out of touch with the 21st century

We may have played Florida better but I think to say we "probably could have taken Florida" is a huge stretch. Florida beat us 30-6 without hardly breaking a sweat. I'll give you we likely would have beaten UCLA and Auburn, but we still would have lost against Florida.

The only difference would be the talk of Fulmer being gone would definitely only be rumor as he'd be beyond safe at 4-2, even if lost to the 2 biggest rivals.

Well, take away our personal foul, facemask or whatever other penalties we had early in the first half...the turnovers...then maybe you could put the spin on us upsetting florida. It was possible, but we would've had to play near perfect...the early penalties, turnovers, and not having the ability to capitalize. It should have at least been closer...then again.."If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas"...or however it goes.

With a new O.C and new system......to learn, I think Crompton was picked due to status and paid his dues being backup thru the years. Clawson went in totally new to all this. He didn't recruit anyone and had to start fresh.

Our troubles lay up front in the trenches and also we're still using the same offense from years past. Even the Georgia players said from studing film they had a good idea of the play ahead of time. Basically we've (that be Fulmer) become to predictable.

It was JC's turn, he's been here for 3 years. Not saying I agree with this, but it must be what happened. NS is much more talented.
