Never been a huge fan of the NBA for the following reasons:

1) Seems to promote thugs.

2) Regular season way too long and is a joke. Most games players just have a casual shoot around until last 2 minutes.

3) Ticket prices are absurd.

I've never paid much attention to the Magic, although I live here in Orlando area. Been to a few games, but I've also given tickets away from my old firm.

Happened to tune in last night and saw the worst officiating of all time. And see this morning that jackass referee, well, you just have to see it: YouTube - NBA Ref Joe Derosa Throws Ball At Fan LMAO (Celtics-Magic-Game 3)

Obviously, the NBA wants a Boston-LA series.

Just another reason to loathe the farce that is the NBA.

It is really quite remarkable that a) the guy is apparently surprised by the fans' reaction to their horrendous officiating, and b) that he thorws the ball at the fan, who thros it back, and he boots the fan out!?

Quite ridiculous.

If it were fixed, I think they would have just pushed LeBron to the Finals.

I don't really believe in the conspiracy theory, but really if there was one what has more national appeal, the Cavs vs. LA or the Celtics vs. LA?

Cleveland.

With the media on LBJ's private area, a LBJ vs. Kobe storyline would have been huge.

Maybe after this post you really should take your ball and go home.

I'm not really a believer in conspiracy theories.

I do think that "superstar treatment" exists and is far too prevalent, and that the referee/player interaction on the court is a complete disservice to the game. In my perfect world, I'd like to have some sort of review system so that if a referee makes an abundance of clearly incorrect calls, which will be reviewed after the game, then they get suspended without pay. That will never happen for a litany of reasons, but it would be nice if it could.

The thug thing is BS, the NFL has way more "thugs" and general off-the-field poor behavior than does the NBA. The difference is that football is still a sport very much in the domain of white America, basketball is not.

I wonder what the incident per player ratio is? I would assume the NFL has more thugs and problems just because they have so many more players.

Probably true... almost seems at least once a year an NFL player kills someone drunk driving or something else.

The NBA has way more thugs than the NFL. The NFL has a bunch too, but the NBA is only know for it's 'thuggery'.

Again, I don't know any of the exact figures but this is based on made-up reputation and not fact. The NFL is full of thugs as well but does not have that rep. I believe it's a racial issue but that's me.

'02 Kings/Lakers series was fixed
That's about the best evidence that one can provide that the game is fixed. However, if what happened to Tim Donaghy has happened to others, then it's at best a conspiracy that is created by organized crime, not the league office. Considering he's done the jail time, I am inclined to take Donaghy at his word at this point. That while they did not explicitly call games to give one team an advantage, but that they do bet based on referee/player relationships (Joey Crawford and Tim Duncan is a better-known example), and that on some subliminal level it could cause a ref to change the way he calls a game.

If the Association really were in on the fix, you would have seen Lebron and the Cavs much more in the series than they were. A Lebron-Kobe Finals would pull in colossal ratings.

Though ultimately I agree, referees are the biggest Achilles heel of the NBA.

Those that hate the NBA are usually the same people who say they don't play defense. And they are wrong.
