Nothing groundbreaking here.

Personally, I remain convinced next year will be Phil's last.

"In the old days, let's say you were upset after the Alabama loss and you decided you were going to write me a letter," said Hamilton, who is really quite the raconteur. "Back in the day, you would have written that letter and maybe Sunday you might have changed a phrase or two. And on Monday you might have put it in the mailbox or you might not have put it in the mailbox.
"I purposely didn't turn on my BlackBerry until I got to Montgomery (after the Alabama game). What's that, a couple of hours, maybe? I had 87 e-mails. That's not a bad e-mail day for me, but there weren't any of them telling me how much they loved me. Some of them had that emotion that maybe it would have been better if they waited until Sunday."
Hamilton nailed the Pearl hire. Hit a grand slam. And so wouldn't Hamilton, who did not hire Fulmer, want to put his magic to work in football?
Hamilton recoils at the thought, shakes his head in disgust, then gives his football coach with a 144-44 career record full support.
"I think some day, I'll have to hire a football coach. I hope it's further down the road rather than closer down the road. I know what Phillip's plan is in terms of how much longer he wants to coach," Hamilton said, without detailing those plans. "And I want him to be able to do that and when he does leave, we'll go out and try to hire the best coach for the University of Tennessee.
"We'll deal with that when the time comes. The thought that any AD would want to hire somebody for the sake of hiring a new coach is ridiculous."
Following the regular season, Hamilton will meet with Fulmer before Dec. 15 per contract stipulations. Maybe the Vols will be SEC champions. Maybe those blowout losses are indicative of what's to come these last two weeks. But Fulmer will almost certainly return, no matter what fans say about these last five years.
"There are some that say, 'OK, do we have the same level of talent we had at one point?' I can't answer that," Hamilton said. "I do know this -- Phillip Fulmer said the class this year is the most athletic class he's ever recruited. I think we've seen some of that on the playing field."
Personally, I remain convinced next year will be Phil's last.
