Change of heart has led me toward looking back at Les Pauls. Anyone have experience with the Epiphone versions? I'm looking to play mostly heavier stuff with it, and I'm not sure that the 4x money for a Gibson is worth it, after running through all the effects. Any advice is welcome.

As is the case with all Gibson stuff, Epiphone Elitist series is the way to go. Gibson is overpriced to all hell, and regular Epiphone stuff is just not of very good quality. The Elitist stuff is the perfect mix of quality and value.

After much looking and debate, I believe that a white Elitist LP custom is the final decision. Thanks for the suggestion, Milo. I'll post back with my thoughts once this baby is in hand.

My little present to myself arrived a day early, and it is absolutely amazing. Beautiful, incredible sound, and surprisingly variable tone with the humbuckers.

Milo, thanks for your suggestion and help. I'm already sold on the Elitist series!

Having lotsa fun thus far. Still working on a name. . . .

Milo, I also included a shot of my very amateur pedal board.

Beautiful guitar... White Gibson custom has always been among my dream guitars.

And no shame on the pedal board! It's all good stuff. Not everybody needs an effects board the size of John Frusciante or something. I used to have a Furman board with a few pedals... Hocked them for a Line 6 PODxt 'cause I couldn't get enough of experimenting, even if individual effects sound better.

Hey, bitchin set up either way.

My board runs to a TC G-major (the little green circular unit on the left is a midi controller/footswith for the rack processor). If you've never played through one, you should. It does just about everything imaginable, with the exception of distortion, and sounds great -- for a pretty reasonable price.

I've had plenty of experience with all sorts of MIDI. It's fun but I'm not a big fan of it... Feels too unnatural, like I'm playing a keyboard or something. I thrive on note expression.

The TC unit isn't a midi unit. The footswitch (called -- appropriately -- the "G-minor") just has the capability to be used as a midi controller, as well.
