Another anti-troll idea Freak....

It would of sucked, if I would have had waited 1-2 days before posting.

I joined as a form of group therapy back in September. The way the season was going at that time, I needed a place that felt the way I did and if I had to wait 1-2 days before I posted, I might have lost it.

I agree with the 24 to 48 hour wait. I would have been okay with that. If you really want to contribute and join, it's no big deal but it sure would deter impulse posters from other schools.

The 20 post rule is a great start.

Another thing that I think would help eliminate a ton of trolls would be a 1-2 day waiting period between signing up and activation of your account. I know there are a couple other SEC sites that do this.

It would eliminate (or at least slow down) those people who are strictly here to talk trash, i.e. during NSD or during that whole Orgeron deal.

Anybody else want to weigh in on this?

Can we make it retroactive to cover everybody?

I think you should have a basic Vols quiz before you join. You get 10 questions. If you score 70% or below, you're account won't be usable.

Or, at the very least, a quiz of the team you root for.

Could we take this idea to the voting booth in November?

We could just ignore them. Completely. They probably won't stay too long when their first three threads don't get a single response.

Here's an idea. Instead of harming traffic to Freak's site with these requirements, why don't we just exercise a little self control and not post in a troll's thread? I know it is novel but every troll poster gets exactly what he/she wants by all the silly replies.

Also, if so many UT fans would stop visiting other board and return with links to their boards, then that may be beneficial as well.

Just some thoughts.

This sounds like both the best and easiest solution, by far. I wonder about how well everyone gets on board with it, and restrains themselves from responding?

Change it to 500 because it is a great free service. If a troll can take a bashing in 500 posts he deserves to post threads. Chances are he will not have the patience to hang around that long and only a true fan would.

Neither of these should be troublesome to rival fans who enjoy reading other folks' perspectives and making an occasional comment, sans smack-talk.

The 20 post ceiling is a pretty good idea, unfortunatly you will always have you're veteran trolls like vols5150 that will be harder to get rid of then herpes.

A waiting period is one of those things that sounds like a good idea to message board member and a bad idea to message board owner.

+1

Freak treats us well by giving us a free quality site. Everyone, if a troll posts and you find it frustrating, then don't respond.

while it's a good idea to weed out the troublemakers on here......it would also hurt the new members that might be future contributors to the site. if that would have happened to me back a few years ago when i joined VN, i probably would have said the heck with it and not have come back after the 2 day wait.
