Hello all. We went to the Akron game this past weekend, and I noticed that the stadium announcer did not announce any of the UT offensive plays. He announced the Akron offensive plays, and they played the auto voice when there was a first down / touchdown for UT.

I just retired from the military and we plan to start going to the games again. Is it normal now to have such a quiet / announcer free offensive ball game, or was there something about the Akron game? It seemed odd to me after going to so many games in the late 90s where the announcer was high energy. Thanks.

This started last year. The offense plays so fast CJH doesn’t want any additional noise that could interfere with the play calls.

I thought it might be a request from the coaching staff b/c of the high tempo. It does seem odd to be at a live football game and hear silence during the offense. They didn’t even comment when there were penalties.

That's a good thing. Quiet on offense. Loud as hell on defense.

Our offense plays so fast, he doesn't have time to announce plays.

I was there and could hardly understand a word coming from the PA system and they did not replay a lot of plays on the jumbotron. I left the game not know who was ejected and for what I heard the word ejected and they never replayed it. I think they have a new person running that and they are not very good.

CJH asked that he keep it as brief as possible because the refs for the most part wouldnt spot the ball until the announcers stopped talking. Not sure if its intentional but my guess is they wanted to insure that all heard the ready to play whistle.

So when we are on offense you wont get much description at all and that is by design so Hooker and company can go even faster.

I've mentioned that myself. Watching from home, the PA was seriously garbled. No way stadium techs didn't hear this.
