In a newly created position as General Manager. But unlike most GMs in college, Luck will basically have full control of the program.

“Luck's role involves everything Stanford football touches, football-wise and business-wise. The football-specific duties will include managing the coaching staff, the player personnel staff, recruiting, roster management and the student-athlete experience.

His business duties will include some aspects often associated with an NFL team president role: fundraising, sponsorships, attendance, sales, in-stadium experience and alumni relations.”

So why not just make him the AD?

I think it'll be universal in a few more years. They just need administrative help now because the player-school-collective love triangle is so much more complicated. not only is your roster changing every year, the conference may also changing every year.

Sounds like it has an eye toward spinning Stanford football off from the rest of the Athletic Dept. Solid money maker for the University.
There will be an athletic department for the poverty sports, and Stanford Cardinal Football as its own entity. I have no idea if they make money on basketball or baseball. I doubt they make a lot outside of their conference share.

I expect to see this sort of situation take shape across the nation over the next few years.

Basically what he is I guess just football focused. Wouldn’t surprise me if this becomes a more common thing as each sport becomes increasingly more complex with all involved.
Technically...Asst. AD for Football Operations.

Seems like the next natural evolution of the sport with the direction it's going.
