After rewatching a few insights:
-The refs were atrocious, holding on our D-line was all night without a single call. If the line of scrimmage was called fairly then Mertz would have been running for his life all night and this game looks very different. Speaking of Mertz he played probably the best game of his career, hitting tight windows and making the right plays all night.
-The o-line played awful, but this was predictable as we we're starting essentially 2 walk ons with cooper and mincey out. WR were open down field, the scheme was great as usual but the blocking just gave them no shot. The o-line being in this situation is partly due to the 2020 transition class finally catching up with us, the good news is there are plenty of solid options on the way, or currently on the roster but too young/inexperienced.
-Milton played well enough to win this game, he's not perfect but he's well above average. It's not fair to compare him to Hooker, but it happens constantly. Criticism of him is simply low effort, there were 10 different issues that were bigger than Milton not always making the right play. Same goes for play calling, we had plenty of open WR and the scheme looked good. At the end of the day though you have to have SEC level oline players.
-Hadden is so dam frustrating because 90% of them time he plays great coverage, and then 10% is just the worse possible mistakes. The none tackle was shameful and I'd like to see the freshmen CB's play more. We should see this happen as the year goes on, typically after the bye week is when the new guys start showing up more and more.
All that being said I honestly believe we have the better roster and coaching staff, everything went right for the gators and they were greatly helped by the refs. If we can get healthy on the o-line we can still go 8-4/9-3 which was my preseason predication anyhow. It's kind of a transition year in terms of roster talent.
