I am a licensed minister and I work for a 501c3 nonprofit program called Teen Challenge. We are a Christian home for women that have life controling problems such as addiction, eating disorders, self-mutilation, etc. Since we are a Christian ministry we dont receive federal grants or funding. We have looked into the faith based avenues, but the government never makes anything easy for you. The main way that we fund this ministry is from various churches and primarily storefront fundraising. Each Friday and Saturday I am in front of a wal-mart selling the crosses that are made in our workshop and asking for donations. Usually we ask for a simple dollar and in return we give the individual a ticket to a pancake breakfast that we have regularly. Let me just ask that if you encounter a person doing this, please help. It's only a dollar and its a good cause. I promise.

I know for a fact that in Memphis, clergy are treated the same as licensed therapist because thnat sector would rather consult with the church, paid by the state Tenncare program, for socio-economic dis-advantaged

there is some federal money available, but trust me, what they make you go through to get it, it's not worth it. also they wanted to change certain aspects of our program that we simply would not. we have mandatory chapel attendence and they wanted us to make it voluntary and other things like that.

I do a little volunteer work with The Haven of Rest, and they have the same policy re daily chapel, and thus do not receive any Fed money. They have a lighthouse program for alcoholics and drug addicts a friend is in.
