An End To Medical Billing Secrecy?

Not sure how this is going to help the average person.

How so? Seems like knowing the exact amount out of pocket one will have to pay at each hospital will allow them to shop around for non-emergency procedures.

Why? I'm covered by my health insurance and pay deductibles by visit and then a maximum per year. Also, my insurance company has in-network and out-of-network coverage. An out-of-network might be cheaper but I'm covered for less. I would think most fall under this. If not, then I'll amend my statement to, interesting information but not really helpful.

Once the wonderful all encompassing savor to all Obama care kicks in, I see the information as irrelevant.

Yes, you will still have to compare in-network physicians, but unless you have garbage insurance, your in-network should cover nearly everybody.

I see it as even more relevant then since most everyone will be pushed to high deductible plans.

In-network my deductible is all I pay. Not sure why I would compare other than have a doctor I prefer over another.

Do you mean co-pay? You do realize that not every plan is the same..... right? This topic is not solely about hohenfelsvol.

Well, I've got news for you. In a few more years, no employers will be able to afford to offer PPO's anymore, and you'll be stuck on a high-deductible plan like a lot of us are now. We switched last year, and it's been rough. Now I have to pay my deductible out of pocket each year before insurance even kicks in at 80/20.

When it gets to this point, then you'll care about healthcare pricing.

This is good healthcare reform. Have a more informed consumer with choices, and prices will drop.

Yep. A great example of reforms that could easily be instituted without a huge, costly bill.

This!!!

Although we intend on keeping a PPO plan for the senior management and giving everyone else the option of a HD plan or staying on a PPO and dealing with whatever the increase may be.

I agree 100%. Didn't mean to come across as didn't care about pricing ever. I'm covered better than most apparently but that won't last forever.

I wonder how useful this will be after all Obama changes happen which I'm sure will change the whole structure.
