I really think the difference this time and for the first time since Dickey was AD, we now have an AD that is commited to winning. The previous people running things in the UTAD were about bean counting over winning IMO. Hence the continuous cluster XXXX we had with coaching. I know PF is committed to winning, I think every fiber in Pruitt's body is about winning. THAT alone will produce a better product on the football field IMO. I also remain somewhat skeptical until we see the actual product. I think a good indicator will be the amount of penalties assessed against us early. If we have penalties all over the place, bad juju and not enough discipline. Time will tell.

Kiffin would have been a disaster with Vols on NCAA double secret probation. He will be a bust with the Raiders...again. :whistling:

You guys all have a sky is falling attitude. Can you not wait until the season starts and then offer your opinion? No you cant because you were either against the hire, LK didn't get hired or we let Gundy or Mullen slip through our hands. Mullen is a Meyer clone... the troubles he has at UF is only surfacing and will continue and we needed that here?

Now if you want UT in the media for all the wrong reasons then either follow FAU or UF and leave UT to the true fans. Sick of this belittling a coach who hasn't coached a game at UT yet. Same stupid fans ran off a HC that should have been given one more year to right the ship but it didn't happen. We have been on a 10 year slide for sure but fans are just as much to blame as coaching.

Sorry, we expect all coaches to live up to our expectations whatever they may be and they all fall short. You slam a coach that took us to 9-4 seasons and that wasn't good enough. How many HC's are standing in line to deal with this fan base?

When we find a man that has the fortitude to take on the job... the negative fans turn on him because he wasn't their choice. How about you guys GROW UP, GET A CLUE, and get onboard OUR UNIVERSITY and stop Bitc... about everything? You fans make me realize why tigers eat their young, because the cull is unwanted. Give Coach Pruitt time... Let the man coach his first season but with a lot of our fans this is asking way too much!

DD was probably the smartest hfc we've had since the General. I suspect that when communicating with fans, some donors, HS coaches, and others DD sometimes strained to come down to the level of the average Tennessean and it came off as stiff and forced/aloof and I further suspect that trickled down through his staff under the monkey see monkey do principle and it affected recruiting. If DD had Butch's talent, I suspect he would've lasted longer.

Dooley might've been book-smart, but he was people-stupid. And since people are roughly 100% of the job as a coach, he was just...well, stupid.

From his first season, he was driving our program deep into the ditch, and it wasn't ever coming out with him at the wheel.

He, Butch, and Kiffin all sucked in different ways, but the key element of that truth is that they all sucked.

You lose credibility by defending Butch Jones. Just look at how often he lost to Vandy.

Some people blindly support regardless of the situation, while others are more skeptical until they see proof. Neither group is more of a “true” fan.

I think your assessment is fair. I also think Kiffin on The Hill would have always been one step ahead of the NCAA Enforcement group. He would have won but the price may have been ultimately too high. If you dance with the devil somebody has to pay the piper.

Actually, Dools situation fits squarely within the quotation of one of my favorite all time authors (a Tenn alum) and that is: "He was a victim of a strange set of circumstances!"

Think back to his first year when he walked on the field to congratulate the losing coach and was called back to the sideline where his teams then lost to both LSU and NC.

If he had won those two games--or the wins he achieved were allowed to stand, his outcome would probably have been entirely different and he would still be at the top of the league coaching the Vols!

But, it didn't turn out that way. Truly a "STRANGE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES"

And I always liked Dooley, but his players didn't!

Yes I did and while he was wrong in his last year he did do some great things for the university that he won't ever get credit for.

While I think he needed to be fired and CJP hired, some still scoff at the hire of JP. Their argument is UT didn't spend the money to get a BIG NAME.... NEWSFLASH..... Big names weren't knocking on the door wanting the job.... My point was and is this; Let CJP get a year or two under his belt before the naysayers attack the man.

Just a few quick observations.
1. The Tennessee program has had its fair share of negative media in the past and unfortunately something negative else will probably come up again. Comes with the territory.
2. Football is a team sport, but take Josh Dobbs out of the equation and that guy that used to be the coach..... slappy buzz cut I believe was his name, would not have lasted as many seasons as he did.
3.Fortitude has nothing to do with it. Put 3-4 million dollars out there and just about anybody not named Saban, Meyer,
Swinney etc would step up to the challenge.
I do like the current direction of things, but I am through with getting excited about press conferences. Give this thing a year or so and the picture will probably be coming into focus a little more clearly.

I think Dooley did some good basics such as bringing back general standards of discipline. Fulmer was loosing touch and Kiffin would have been worse. Dooley just wasn’t cut out to be a p5 hc at that time, especially since he was working previously as AD and HC simultaneously.

I do wonder if Davenport has put much thought towards this season since most of vn wanted her lynced along with whatshisface. Lol

I totally blame utad for the last decade
