How many scholarships we (or any I-A school) have in total? I heard the other day, Urban Meyers said, "We just have 82 scholarships..." Is that correct?

We would probably end up with 30+ commitments this year. But I heard we have only 14 last year comitments left, so we should be OK, right? Is there any limit that how many scholarships we can give each year?

We can only give out 25 a year. We can only hold a total of 85. I think we could end up with around 34 signees, but, at least, 3 would be sign and place and 5 count towards last year. We would still be over the 25 mark(unless Gerald Williams doesn't qualify) and may be 2-4 over the 85 mark. We may have to ask a few to greyshirt.

That is when they don't enroll till the spring term and aren't on scholarship until then. They won't be on the team until the year after they graduate HS. We will likely ask local kids that are lower rated and would likely not contribute much that early. They would do it because that is the only way they will play for UT on scholly. They still get a scholly, just a year later. Britton Colquitt did this. It also gives them a year to get ready for college.

Does it mean greyshirt, such as Britton, got the scholarship in the spring when he enrolled. But his scholarship was actually counted for the next class? So greyshirts just dodge the problem one year, since they are still counted as scholarship players one year later?

Can a greyshirt enroll in the fall, without any scholarship limit repercussions, if he pays his own way?

I think that is an option. He can come in, pay his own way for that semester and then join the team and get his scholly in the spring. Either way, the scholly will be counted for the next year's class.

What if a player is "signed and placed" by UT this year? Does it mean UT pays for his tuition to study at some prep school or JUCO, but their scholarships are still counted as this year's? Does it mean Sign and Place does not dodge the problem.

By the way, what is the difference to place a player at prep school and JUCO?

Okay, sign and place just means that they signed the LOI and we helped place them in a prep school or JUCO. They don't have any affiliation with the school until they sign again, meaning they can go elsewhere if they choose.

Prep is one year and doesn't count against the time they can play at the university(5 years to play 4). JUCO can be 1, 2, or 3 years before going to a university and counts against their eligibility.

Yes, a player will be counted against the 85 if they are on another sport scholarship. That is the Bear Bryant rule. Academic is no, but not many players would qualify for a full scholly, nor would accept that.
