Amelia, the UK icon

Backstory

About 2 years ago, the UK made a teen online game with Amelia, a purple haired goth, as the baddy who tries to “radicalize” Charlie, the boy next door with “subversive” thoughts like the UK is great, and 3rd world immigration is bad.

It backfired spectacularly!

I thought it was more recent than 2 years ago. It has exploded the last few weeks. I am not sure I quite understand politics over there but I do think most the governments are corrupt now and seeing this just makes me roll on the floor laughing.

It is really sad that for men, all they truly want is a loyal wife, a good job, and a house. Not much to ask for and used to be something very achievable. I think it is still achievable here in Tennessee but it is definitely becoming an issue in other places.

You are right it has exploded and I wasn’t sure if Americans would get it. It’s hilarious that someone took the original WOKE Amelia and created this. You know England will try to figure out a way to censor it like they have been doing with everything else lately.

I even watched the Pathway in-game scenes with her and she doesn't even sound that radical. It is hilarious.

The guy making the Japanese anime of her and Charlie (that is the male character you play apparently) is great.

Never seen ole fictional Amelia before. If the UK put out an anime to try and indoctrinate teens into being OK with the invading horde...that is hilarious and dozens different people should have had the balls to say "hey stupid, don't do that".

I heard some one at work listening to him rant and rave about people calling things AI and that you shouldn't believe that
I’m not a fan of AI. But this is different because it took a woke cartoon made by the British government that failed and turned it into a joke. Nobody thinks it’s real.

"Amelia" is a fictional character from ….

Pathways: Navigating the Internet and Extremism, an educational video game funded by the UK Home Office and produced by Hull City Council.
Here are the details regarding her origin and, as of January 2026, her viral, controversial adoption as an internet meme:
  • Original Purpose: Amelia was designed as an antagonist in a "prevent-style" game aimed at young people aged 13-18, intended to teach them how to identify and resist far-right radicalization.
  • Character Background: In the game, Amelia is depicted as a college student with purple hair, a choker, and a dress, who tries to persuade the player to join in anti-immigration, nationalist, or "British values" protests.
  • The "Anti-Extremist" Context: The game, created by Shout Out UK for the Prevent program, presents choices to interact with Amelia as "wrong" or as potential signs of radicalization.

Because a lot of MAGA/Boomer types here post fake information whether its Russian/Chinese propaganda, and/or AI videos they think are real. Several media outlets had to report that Amelia was fake because people thought she was real.

Now they just say "no one believes its fake" or "i dont know why people are telling us its fake, its AI".

I am not sure anyone ever thought she was real to be honest but I guess someone could have. One of the funniest posts I saw the other day was ranking the most iconic video game characters and they had Peach, Zelda, Samus, Lara Croft, and then Amelia from Pathways lol
