Always a bridesmaid - Never the Bride!

And you probably dont know both have Final 4s at their respective schools.
Other than as a marketing ploy, what is really the accomplishment of making a F4? It's not a championship of anything.
I remember seeing a Neyland Stadium cake tin a long time ago with some UT football info printed on the sides. It said "finished 2nd in the nation four times". That sounds like "haven't won a natty but made the F4".

The BETTER question is where are the offenses ranked, compared to ours? Duke #3, UF #9, Aub #12, UH (tied with us) #164. If Houston wins it all; which I hope they do, I will stand corrected.
You know that our rank of 17 is a whole lot closer to 1 than it is to 364, right?

It's a pretty good marketing tool, though, right? People care about the Final Four. Only one of them wins the whole thing, but the other three were at least champions of their region.

I understand what you're saying, don't get me wrong. South Carolina, Loyola, Florida Atlantic and other schools that just had one flash in the pan year can't really market to it beyond the achievement just being a point of pride. That being said, if you're consistently doing well in the regular season and get to the Final Four you position yourself as one of the sport's true giants.

Tennessee has been an absolutely fantastic regular season team under Barnes (and Pearl, to be clear!) plus has done very well in the tournament recently. But the lack of a Final Four to go along with that other success is simply an easy way for recruits to discount Tennessee. Make no mistake, even if they don't cut down the nets on Monday it sucks that Auburn has been to two recent Final Fours and can point to that when going after talent.

I view it kinda like an eastern conference championship game. It’s a huge deal to make it. It is a marketing gimmick but in a one and done scenario making it that far is huge.

That eastern conference championship game was a best 4 of 7. Huge difference

oh god weve reached "is it even an accomplishment to make it to a final four" step in coping.
Does losing later one time really matter in the long run though? It did absolutely nothing for South Carolina. They’re the worst program in the SEC now.

The College World Series is the “Elite Eight” of baseball and most agree making it is a noteworthy accomplishment.

If being in the final 8 in baseball means something, why is that not the case in basketball? What yahoo decided you had to be in the last 4 before it means anything, and why should I care what that person thinks?

coming up next on basilio...is even making the tournament an accomplishment anymore? its all just a marketing scheme to line the suits pockets

We are taking about accomplishment. I used an analogy. This is the only major tournament or playoff that has this many teams. The final for matters.

Yes, it matters. As I've often stated, the tournament should be best 2 of 3 from the Sweet 16 through the final 2

I agree with that starting at the elite 8 (not 16) but what does that have to do at all with the topic of does the final 4 matter or is it just marketing?

I totally agree it should be that way.
