IMO, It just speaks to the level that college basketball has risen to in the last decade. Teams are recruiting harder than ever. AAU ball is changing the way things are done in that aspect as well. Kids are realizing you can make it to the league at schools not named Kansas/NC/UCLA/UK. Competition is so much better now, and a level unseen in the past. The talent pool is widening, therefore widening the # of schools that can take advantage.
Outside of 3-5 teams each season (who still lose their share), it is literally wide open. Teams deserved to be ranked for their body of work, but at any given moment there are dozens of teams out there that can play with anyone. (Not to sound Cliche)
