I had a premonition.... haha. When Stephens proves to be more Consistent than Crompton this week in practice and has a great game against N.Illinois and then a good game at UGA, a lotta people are gonna be ticked, damn why didnt Stephens start the whole season. Stephens will prove himself and could possibly turn the season around of what little bit is left. I mean this, take this one to the bank, I promise, Crompton was never worth anything and I'm just really sorry to say thank you for a change this late in the season.

I got a better one than that. If Stephens does turn around the season, Hamilton and Fulmer can use that as an excuse to keep Fulmer and give him one more year to get the offense in shape with this new QB and coordinator.

Seriously...

Two days ago you were stating that UT would beat Auburn and you could take that to the bank. Your bank is worth about as much as Washington Mutual.

Good One! HAHA, i do apologize for that crap but I do think Stephens can do wonders.

Stephens can do better but it may not make a lot of difference. The D will have to learn how to play closer than 10 yards away from the receiver. The O line will have to block and then of course we would still have to not get so many penalties. I hope the offense get going no matter who starts as QB. We do have other problems to work on though.

You're right, I would be ticked that it took this long to make the change. Just another reason why it's time for a coaching change.

The defense is playing good.

Let's not give the D too much credit, Auburn is one of the worst offensive teams in the league. Only UT and Miss. St. are worse.

I agree but they usually can make the plays we need them to if the offense can keep them off the field long enough to get some rest

Yes, this is definitely the more likely scenario.

Though I do have to say that Fulmer must be put under some pressure for getting the QB wrong the last several times,(i.e., Clausen, Ainge and now potentially NS emerge as the better QB well into the season, and not before we suffer a few costly losses). The man has to learn to get it right in spring practice and ensure he has the most capable guy on the field in the FIRST game of the season. It really says a lot about him as a coach if for the third time in a row he's missed the guy that was clearly the better candidate for the job!

Seriously....premonition, thats what you are going on. Have you seen Stephens at practice or in any of the scrimages in fall camp? At one point he could not seperate himself from Coleman and Crompton out played him in every scrimage.

I would like to see another Andy Kelly come in and see Stephens play like an All-SEC QB like Kelly did in '89 but don't hold your breath remember he has been coached by this staff and they have single handedly ruined a good QB in Crompton.

I know the backup QB is always the most popular but you are not going to see 4 TD's and 400yds passing. You might see maybe 100 yds 0 TD's and 1 int.

My big concern about the defense is we're missing alot of tackles we have guys diving at players feet with their heads down and we have some guys on defense that don't have hands and arms I guess because when they hit people they don't use them to wrap up.

Its been that way for years. It is what it is. They all need to go.

Clausen was injured early in 2000. Ainge was named the starter before we lost a game.

Honestly though, if you watched any of the spring game or saw Crompton's pre-season numbers he seemed to be the obvious choice at QB, hands down. All we were being fed about this team prior to the season was a hearty helping of bs IMO. The D is pretty good but our O....well you know.

Like I said Crompton looked like Warren Moon in the spring game throwing the ball down field like a cannon. I think the moniker "fools gold" applies here.

I'd take a 51 year old Warren Moon over Crompton :)

Is everyone really convinced Stephens will start Saturday? I'm not. Fulmer has already said both will play. He is having a hard time coming to the realization that his boy just plain sucks and isn't cutting it. I don't think Crompton has the right to play 1 second on Saturday. He has had 16 quarters to get better and he is getting worse. At least give Stephens these 4 quarters to prove himself and get him ready for the Georgia game. My prediction: Fulmer starts Crompton and plays them both about half and half. I certainly hope not, but that is what I see happening.

You act like Fulmer is the worst thing to happen to us. I do believe he should pull his head out of his butt and actually make the changes he says he will make. If that doesn't happen then good ridance. But this team is still worth saving. A big win against top SEC teams will boost our confidence and actually win the games we were supposed to at the start of the season. I see this team proving something later in the season and hopefully carrying it over to next year like you say. Great things take time. If it is next season fine, this season can only carry depth over to the next.
