Just heard tne former Volunteer great on ESPN, where I think he is now one of their professional basketball color commentators. My question is : How many years will it be until UT retires his number?

Well it took Benard King, what 20+ years. Isn't Houston still making 20 million a year from the Knicks? If he is Wow. I want his agent.

Retiring numbers seems to be in vogue on the Hill right now. My guess is you'll see Houston's jersey haning from the rafters within the next 5 years.

You really shouldn't listen to those voices in your head. They don't have your best interests at heart. There is medication that will help you cope with them.

Does he meet two of these requirements?

A candidate must have achieved two of the following four honors: candidate must be a first team All-America as recognized in the University of Tennessee basketball media guide, SEC player of the Year as recognized in the University of Tennessee basketball media guide, member of an Olympic basketball team or a member of the NBA or ABA All Star team.

IMO the order should be:

1. Bernard King
2. Dale Ellis
3. Allen Houston
4. Ernie Grunfeld
5. Tony White

Slick Rick asks, does anyone remember Fred Jenkins that played in the Tony White era? He was a good player too, but not one of the top 5.

Yeah, funny you mention that, I was trying to remember the name of the guy who played with Tony White who was a small forward around 6'3".

i'm thinkin bout the pt guard/2 guard that played during the green days, w/ cj black and company. i thought his name was tony white, maybe i'm thinkin of someone else

Nice to see Howard Wood's name mentioned in the thread, though -- I was a big fan of his back when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I still remember this picture in the paper of him futilely trying to guard Ralph Sampson, who loomed over him like something out of a Lord of the Rings movie. That was an ugly game.

I'm no basketball junkie, although knowledgeable of the game, just not into it. So, my innate knowledge of alot of player and team history is lacking. Being said, isn't there alot of love for King these days? A little too much? The guy was definitely good. Maybe one of the UT best if you're into that. But, he left over 20 years ago, and his jersey retirement was his first footprint on campus, or the university in general since. He didn't give much of anything back.

yea he was the one that was injured then ran on the court in street clothes during an altercation during a game. One of the writers for kns called him a punk in an article and it was a pretty big deal. My brother is very good friends with two former b-ball players(one was a very good player) that said the reason he didn't get kicked out of school was b/c ut paid him 500,000 to come here and his uncle was going to go to the papers if they disciplined him.
