I am proud how this young team went down to LSU and played. A lot of people who don't know football keep bashing Dooley and Simms. You need to get behind both. Dooley took a very tough job. And he WANTED to be here and be coach of our Vols. They way the last two coaches left this program is a mess. Dooley will get this fixed and start winning. You will see. And the way some of you bash on Simms shows you don't know a thing about football. This kid starts his 6th game this Saturday. He has the youngest O-lines in the SEC. The kid takes a lot of hits and he does not complain. I am glad Dooley is our coach and i stand behind this team, and Dooley,Simms keep up the good work. Go Vols!!!!!!!!

For the size of the blunder, Dooley has gotten a free pass as far as I'm concerned. I think the criticism has been pretty mild.

Mostly because no one gave us a shot to even be within 10 points of LSU

It is an odd situation. He took an undermanned team into an impossible situation and overperformed for 59 minutes, book-marked by 30 seconds at the beginning and the end by some of the worst bumbling in the history of football.

I'm not sure what to make of it.

Well that's the thing. It started off TERRIBLY yet Dooley still held the team together and we pushed LSU to the very edge, so I give him credit for that.

Definitely a tough call... this team has definitely competed beyond what many of us expected.. Guess its what we should expect w/ a young team and coach.. some growing pains, even if they are boneheaded.. we will grow from them!

whatever...

lots of people are on the Dooley bandwagon. The fact of the matter is that Hamilton's stock was so low after the Kiffin debacle this was all he could land.

Face it, Dooley is another Mike Shula - a mediocre coach who's the son of a talented coach.

keep believing what you want... sooner or later you'll figure it out. Of course, there were many in Alabama who liked M.S. even when he was fired. Sure Dooley might win some games, but he's not a top tier recruiter and he'll not put TN back in contention for an SEC title... ever.

can we all not agree that the ineptitude of Les Miles brought out the inexperience in both our players and coaches? Give a Dooley a freakin break.

Didn't Mike Shula's seniors win a national title last year?

Dooley has made mistakes. He is probably just as nervous as these young athletes. But from what I get from CDD, he will not make these same mistakes again. He will correct them and move on. Just like any good coach would do.

I am very proud of this team. It's unbelievable what ppl are thinking right now. We all knew this was going to be a tough season and are exactly where we knew we would be record wise at very date and quite frankly we could have exceeded expectations if the UF game and LSU had gone a little differently. Oh but by God if Kiffin was here everybody would be saying how he's doing such a good job and is in a tough spot. How about yall get off his nuts and support the team you're "fans" of. Dooley is going to get this turned around and we're in good hands, you'll see.

That's just it... they had 10 players on the field the week prior to this one and they didn't correct it. We got lucky against UAB, but this week it cost us the game.

The game was close because our players gave their all. So, the coaching blunder was unfair to them.

This situation was a little a different. Like i said earlier, Les Miles' complete ineptitude brought out the inexperience in the coaches and players. No way you can compare the 10 men during the UAB game to this situation.

I think having substitution problems on defense at important times in two consecutive games might be somehow related.

So, as long as they don't have 10 or 13 this week, any other number should be forgiven?

Is 11 really that hard?

Even the most Homerish of fans should have some expectations for the coaching staff. Getting the right number of players on the field for the final play of the game appears about as minimal as one could go.

I think some here would defend the staff if they 'overslept' and missed the next game.

Yes we all knew this was going to be a long season. It was supposed to be because of our young team, not because of coaching blunders. Its hard to do, but at this point I see more positives than negatives with DD and staff, so im still backing them. However, it was a major blunder at the end of the game and the coaches deserve any criticism they get IMO. For the OP to say anyone who bashes DD doesnt know anything about football is ridiculous.

I didn't say that there was nothing wrong about it? All i said was that the two situations were different.

Obviously, nobody would take the job. We should be grateful for anyone who would grace us with his presence and refrain from criticizing any aspect of his team's performance, no matter how inept it appears.

Dooley's most ardent supporters already going with "Who Ya Gunna Git?". That didn't take long.
