while i tend to agree with you, those north of us would disagree completely. It's more a geographical thing than anything else.

There's a geographical bias to which you prefer, obviously. Those of us who grew up in the south mostly watched college football growing up, so when we watch at a pro game, we miss that "playing a game" sense that we grew up with. Guys up north grew up mostly watching pro football, so when they watch a college game, they mostly notice that, well, the players aren't very good compared to what they're used to. As you say, it's just what you grew up with.

I've had this pro-vs-college conversation with a friend from Cleveland a few times, and he doesn't deny that the OSU Buckeyes are still playing a game in a way that the Bengals and the Browns aren't. That's just not a quality he cares at all about. "Why wouldn't I want to see the best players?" Etc.

i enjoy watching both. I'm more biased towards basketball. I can watch Arkansas Pine Bluff take on Mississippi Valley State in college bball and be happy. It's a game. a team game. I get bored out of my mind watching an NBA game.

In college football, I can watch most teams. In the NFL I can watch most teams. I see more excitement in the college game overall, but if you go to an NFL game up north, the atmosphere is only different in the fact that the alcohol you see in the stands is actually allowed.

No question about the gameday atmosphere at pro games up north. I would defy anyone to look at those fans in Cleveland or Pittsburgh or Green Bay out there when it's 38 degrees and pissing rain and tell me those fans aren't as passionate about their teams as SEC fans are about theirs. I do prefer the overall excitement of the college game myself, but of course I was born in Knoxville.

There is mutiny going on and it is because of a lack of control over one coach and his getting to close to the players and the fans loving him but not seeing through him... TT is a crap stirrer and will continue to do it as long as he can get away with it... He is the infection....and a ugly cyst... So you want to know why the program is in the state that it is you need not look to FAR... it is TROOPER TAYLOR... I DO NOT NEED A DRINK I NEED A FIFTH.

To some degree, ulterior motives make coaches better. For instance, I would rather have an OC that is looking to make a name for themselves rather than one that is happy being a blind yes man for 15 years.

The heart of the reason behind Cut's return was to have a job until he was offered another head coaching position. Don't you think that motivated him to be a better coach? In the back of his mind, he came to work every day knowing that he was developing a portfolio.

It is unfair to blame staff unrest on people that are upwardly mobile. In fact, I would prefer a staff full of them. They know they have something to prove every Saturday. However, if you are going to employ talented staff members it takes a confident and strong head man to hold all of the egos in check....

It is common knowledge that some on this staff did not always get along very well. Even if we take your assumption at face value as a fact, I would blame the head coach for not having enough influence over the staff to keep them focused.

Trooper played at Baylor, that's where his loyalties are. If he stays as an assistant here, he may not get another shot at OC for a very long time.

To expect players to come in a bleed orange is pretty much setting yourself up for disappointment. Most good recruits are torn between 2-3 schools. They choose the school based on what the school has to offer them not what they have to offer the school. By the time they are Jr's or Sr's the atmosphere has usually taken over in them and they truly are Volunteers, but Fr or even So probably think to themselves "man did I make the right choice" especially when you have a bunch of coaching changes. But in no way do I think this effects their desire to win. Competitors are born not made.

Let me start this by saying it is a rant. Opinion. Mine. I am a man. I am 33! So I am probably of average age on this board.

I am a Trooper fan. I like the guy. I like the enthusiasm he brings to the fans as well as players. I know that is unpopular with Hat and some others that i respect a LOT but like I said, is just MY opinion. That being said I have a real problem with the state of this program. It is the same problem I see a lot of teams having. I think that when it comes to college football, too often the focus of the game has turned to the individual coaches, and not the storied programs they represent.

I remember not too long ago when it meant something to be a player for the University of _______. Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State, Georgia. Now it is more important to play for Stoops, Cutcliff, Myer, Saban, Rodriguez. Players would rather have a coaches name on their resume' than a schools. It is hard to think that money and the potential of making it in the NFL is to blame.

We have seen it for years in college basketball. that is the only reason John Calipari recruits kids to Tiger High. You think they really give two squats about the University?? No they know he is a HUGE stepping stone to the NBA. One and done. Two if they are lucky. They major in "ME"-ology. We are starting to get the same thing in the football ranks.

I have never been a fan of the NFL because to me (opinion) there is no passion. But when you see players calling it in, because they don't want to risk an injury, or in a certain player from Tiger High, do not even play against your in state SEC rival, because your NFL stock could greatly suffer if a "Real" defense shut you down. This is becoming laughable. Schools are hiring headhunters to win. Coaches who could give a rip about the school that pays them. I don't know if I have heard Saban utter the word Alabama more than twice. Much less Roll Tide, Or Crimson Tide. It is always we , us, our team. He probably is not even sure what team he is coaching this week.

But to read where we, WE, My beloved TENNESSEE VOLS, have players talking of Transferring if a position coach leaves is insane. NOT THE COORDINATOR that everyone puts up on a pedestal but a POSITION COACH!! That explains why we could not get the young guys to get up for the big games against Florida, Alabama, and Cal!!! They do not care about this school. They do not care about what that helmet represents. If most of us where given the chance to put on that uniform and run out of the "T" we would sell our soul. These little premadonnas have no clue what it means. The majority of them have been babied and coddled and have no sense of pride. I have stood behind them, have cheered, cried and fought for them. But if this is how they show their pride and appreciation, then :salute:. Adiós. But on your way out you yellow bellied coward, how bout writing a check to VASF for the amount of your scholarship this past year. Because They owe me a refund for your sorry tail. I made contributions to aid in the development of student athletes here to promote the GREAT UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!!!!! Not The NAME ON THE BACK OF YOUR JERSEY YOU UNGRATEFUL PIECE OF TWO FACED, SWINDLING, BLACK MAILING TRASH. Thats what you have done you have blackmailed us into believing you were one of us. Someone who cared about and took pride in wearing the Orange. Not someone that wore it only because it was the color of the jersey they handed to you!!

I NEED A DRINK!

I love the VOLS and Tennessee football as much as the next man, and longer than quite a few. Much of what you say I agree with.

However, I am not sure we actually have a coach TT being a for "crap stirrer," we have rumors, allegations, hearsay, etc. floating around everywhere. Have I missed something? Has any player said they are leaving for sure, if so, OK good luck to you elsewhere, but don't expect thegrass to be greener on the other side of the fence (no coker pun intended).

Many of these players have had their butts kissed and egos stroked since they first put on pads, of course theyare going to think "me first, coach second, school third," not all but many. it is the nature of the beast be it UT, bama, USC, ND, etc. It is no different than the NFL in that way. I don't like it but there is much in the real world I find distasteful.

I want the best athletes we can legally recruit, and I long for the days when playing for a school was what counted, now the focus is on BCS and NC games, if not the NFL.

As I stated earlier this is just my $.02 worth of opinion.

I hope we dont lose Trooper or any of the players and get all of this behind us sop we can focus on beating wisconsin...it means a lot to us who love UT, the SEC, and live in big 10 country. GO VOLS:victory:
