All things STOCKS

Amazon trying microprocessors will work the same as Amazon trying Blue Origan. Crash and burn.

They might want to look into memory chips.

Bezos has to learn his limitations....lol

Needs to read a book about Sam Walton.

Amazon is going to start self-producing, unless I'm wrong.

AMZN will design chips for their own use and TSM will manufacture them. NVDA potentially loses business, although they have a multi-year backlog. INTC is a potential winner when it all plays out.

Global Foundries (GFS) could get a bump, but I wouldn’t buy shares since a sovereign in Abu Dhabi owns about 90% of them.

I don’t think that AMZN is involved with Blue Origin. Although they could be interested in satellites if BO became a reliable launch platform. A rocket company doesn’t really fit their business model like their various initiatives centered around consumers or cost savings. BO is more like something that Bezos is spending HIS money on. Along with ex-wives and mega yachts.

BTW, I just upgraded to Amazon Prime. It provides terrific enhancements and well worth the $150/year or $15/month. Thursday Night Football except that Netflix has about 3 weeks. Incredibly fast, free delivery. $150 gift card with a Prime Chase credit card. 5% off on Amazon purchases and at Whole Foods with the Chase card.

Amazon Prime is awesome!

I think Bezos is the owner/brains behind Blue Origin. As usual, I may be wrong. If so, from an engineer viewpoint, they are a staggering hot mess.

Well, did you ever SMH when you were buying or selling it? (yep, that's a bad joke, but with a ticker like that, I couldn't pass it up )
It may be a bad joke, but it was helpful. I didn't realize he was referencing an ETF stock ticker symbol. I thought he was shaking his head while buying and selling Palantir.

Welcome to the party. The prime card is great too. I don't think I've ever used it for anything other than amazon purchases but the 5% really adds up. I reward myself with something at the end of the year with accrued points. 2025 got me a 75" OLED.

Since this is the “All Things Socks” thread, ahem…I mean “STOCKS” because Siri can’t spell and I fat finger everything, but what is everyone’s go to publication(s) for market news, particularly if it’s not one of the more well known pubs? For me it’s…

1) IBD
2) Barrons
3) WSJ

I don’t pay for any premium subscriptions. There is so much free info out there. I toy with the idea of buying the Wall Street Journal during their big ale around the holidays. Probably one that packages it with Barons.

For ideas I’ll often follow the Peter Lynch approach. Who is busting it in retail or other vidible businesses to see who is busting it. But there’s no longer much advantage over other investors taking his approach anymore - those socks get very expensive. Casey’s General Store and CostCo’s parking lots are usually packed relative to other businesses. Amazon wears the asphalt out running through the neighborhood EVERYDAY.

I don’t look at IBP very often - maybe Google teir 40 or 50 component list. I typically haven’t heard of most of the names.

News comes from CNBC and Google.

When I was a kid Dad gave me a Fortune magazine subscription. I used to love reading the paper copy

.
Yes, tge Chase Prime Visa only pays 1% elsewhere. I still use my old Truist card for most non-Amazon purchases. I’ve gotten 6% several times. I might go crazy buying **** during the Prime deals. Like I did at the Augusta National souvineer shops.

I subscribe to Apple News which lets me follow Barrons and WSJ among others, but not IBD. It’s not much. You’re right…a lot of good info out there for free. I see a lot of these traders put out partial information content and want you reply some code word for their news letter…all for the low, low price of $499/yr. Yeah, sure.

It’s amazing what the Google web crawlers can find. Sometimes I’m interested after reading a teaser that won’t give a name without subscribing. I’ll just enter the 411 in Google and it will give the name(s).

IBD can’t keep their IBD 50 list secret. Google. Reddit. AI. It’s easy to find with minimal research and searching.

I also like the Guy Adami podcasts. But they, like every other outlet, runs out of content quickly and seem to d*** around a lot. CNBC d***s around a lot as well. But they stay on top of breaking news as good as or better than anybody. 13 hours on weekdays (plus the international feeds) is a lot of time to fill.

$3/week (or $149 for one year) digital subscription special for the WSJ plus Barron’s plus IBD plus Market Watch. Then $709+ after one year. Or $3/week for the WSJ only.

Today I had a WSJ offer pop up for $2/week.

I subscribe to the NYT and I like the Dealbook newletter. I’ve read and been alerted to news I’m not sure I would’ve otherwise heard. Introductory subscription deals available.

It’s been a couple of years, but I once subscribed to the Motley Fool.

Yes. That’s a typo. $2/week for the WSJ only. And $3/week for the WSJ, Barron’s, IBD, and MarketWatch.

The price really jumps up considerably after the one year special deal.
