Noted: In 2003, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) passed a law that only fish in the Ictaluridae family, which includes American catfish but not swai, can be labeled or advertised as catfish. So, even though swai is of the order, catfish, our FDA says no to labeling it as such when offered as foodstuffs.
Like tilapia, swai is farm raised - huge industry by gross tonnage of output. Also like tilapia, it's comparatively lacking in the omega-3s which induce recommendations of substituting fish protein into one's diet.
