Alexis Johnson cleared by the student board

So Johnson has 2 years to play 2 seasons - he's already 3 years out of HS?

If so, they you're correct that there's no benefit at all to RS.

I'm probably going to get heat from this, but I actually meant that he'll likely only stay 2 seasons because he could potentially go pro after next season. I'm bummed that I can't access his highlight from last year on Hudl, but he looked better than Kongbo did against juco competition. For a guy his size he moves extremely well and he's just so freakin disruptive.

Did this vision come to you in a dream?

C'mon man - he's never played a down of big boy football and he sure as heck isn't a Kongbo look alike nor was he a 5* top ranked juco recruit. There is absolutely no viable data to suggest he'll go pro before his playing time has expired.

Could it happen? Anything could happen, but you sure wouldn't blow a RS banking on it happening - that'd be irresponsible. :eek:lol:

Have you considered the possibility this guy has been staying in shape and working out instead of just laying around eating potato chips?

Think before you answer, maybe.

What was Kmac doing the year before he showed up? There was video of him lifting and doing football drills. But as he proved, an individual can rarely push himself to same level as S&C coach could in a team setting. Its that level of effort required to get prepared to play. Johnson is no Kmac talent wise either so it would be even more important for him.

He was ranked as the top JC DT last year.

Looking at Butch's history, I absolutely think he'll play Alexis once he's cleared. No reason to redshirt a guy who will likely only stay at the university for 2 years. He's in the same boat eligibility-wise as Kamara was when he came in last year. This is one point I agree with D4H on: Preston Williams last season. He tore ligaments in his knee at the end of his high school career. He wasn't able to enroll early and get a head start on things. He wasn't even cleared to practice with the team until August 26. That's in regards to a guy who was (is) no where near physically or mentally mature to play in the SEC. But he still beat out all of these guys for receiving yards:
Jauan Jennings
Alex Ellis
Johnathon Johnson
Marquez North
Johnson is not coming off of an injury, and is as big and probably just as strong as all of the other DTs as well. Once Johnson is reinstated to the team he will definitely play, bank on it.

Is Lovie circling again?

Feel better after the flame? Think before speak card?..Really?..This is not the boardroom on the 48th floor at 6th and 52nd..This is a fan message board. I come here to escape that discipline. Working out on own is not the same as being in the S&C program. He is in shape but not the same shape he would have been in if this did not happen. And if red shirted he will be able to be in the best shape possible for his career moving forward..is my opinion

I'm not saying he's the next Haynesworth but it's fair to say that a juco guy could go pro after two years in the sec because it happens literally all the time. I love Kongbo as well, but honestly Johnson will most likely be a better contributer sooner because he's been playing the game his whole life. Kongbo has one year at a Canadian high school and one year in juco. It's just my opinion that Johnson's girth and power will really fill the holes in the line 😂😂😂

Funny to me that they won't reinstate him with the same swiftness they suspended him. I didn't expect him to be back on the team the same day he was cleared but geez, he's lost what, 2 weeks worth of fall camp he could've had under his belt?

Well, in about an hour or two that 5 day appeal period will be over (3pm on Thursday to now)...and how convenient, UT doesn't have a practice today that Butch would have to oversee. Any chance of a reinstatement later this afternoon??

So once he's cleared (hopefully today or tomorrow since that 5 day appeal window would end today), how many practices would he have before school starts? From where I'm sitting it looks like only about 3-4. But we're also still 5.5 weeks from the Florida game which is when I'd assume we would hope he could contribute. Assuming he's kept in shape, I feel like that would be enough time to be ready...

He's gonna have to redshirt IMO. He can't possibly be anywhere near the shape he needs to be in having been away from the team since February. He doesn't know schemes, the techniques Strip teaches, has had no contact, no drills, no nothing. I hope I'm wrong here, but I don't see how he's gonna be able to help out at all this year after the ridiculous Charlie-Foxtrot he's been put through for 6 months now. I'm furious on this kid's behalf at this point.

I'm not going to feel completely sorry for the guy since he is guilty of some wrong doing, but you're right, at this point it's insane he isn't back. If we had more than just 4 guys (Kmac, Danny O, Vickers and Picou) healthy and one coming back from injury (Tuttle) I'd say redshirt Johnson all the way. But since our fall back plan has been "well lets just move Kongbo inside". The unfortunate truth is, despite Kongbo's potential, he still has only played 2 seasons of football in his life. The DT position is the only very shaky position because of depth; putting Johnson on the same track as Tuttle as far as when he should contribute I think would be the smart plan. Maybe he isn't an expert on the play book and maybe he isn't in the best shape on earth. But as padding behind Kmac/Obrien/Vickers/Tuttle/Picou, I'll take Johnson over Bain any day (I know I'm about to be struck by lighting where I sit). I'll reference Pwill from last year again: if a player is needed for depth, Butch won't be afraid to put him in.

We shouldn't expect to see any action on Johnson until after his court date on October 14. At that point, his record will be cleared in the legal system. Within a day or so, Johnson will be reinstated and should begin to train with the team. He will definitely redshirt. I look for him to be a force next season beginning with the spring practice.
