Alabama @ Tennessee game time question

Why isn't this possible top 5 match up not at 730 or 8? Does anyone understand or know why this is?
CBS always has first pick. They’re only allowed to air one prime time game per year. They chose Bama/A&M this week as that game.

Glad I’ll be at the game so I don’t have to listen to Gary Danielson slobber all over Bama
Me too. I can't freaking wait. I'm taking a buddy with me who's Brazilian and only been into soccer. I got him into watching Tennessee games with me this year and so he wanted to go to a game. He has no idea what he is in for.

I turn the TV sound off for the CBS 3:30 game and stream the play by play radio call from the Vol Network.
Cant listen to the CBS donkeys lick all over Saban and Bama.

Those soccer fans are crazy. He’ll take to it like a fish to water, I’d wager.

CBS gets first pick. They own the 3:30 pm timeslot for that weekend.

They have two weekends that can be designated doubleheaders, but they contractually have to do so in March before the season starts. This year they chose to designate this weekend as their afternoon/evening doubleheader (for which they chose the Auburn-Georgia and Texas A&M-Alabama games, respectively) and the weekend of November 12 for their noon/afternoon doubleheader.

(Technically CBS has moved, at most, a very few games to an evening (7PM) timeslot. However, they had to go into negotiations with ESPN and give them a whole bunch in return to do it…so it’s not something one should expect them to do again.)
