I think it's a function of how Alabama played Kentucky and Ole Miss close.

wow either the odds makers have a lot of confiendence in UT or none in Bama.

Their Mount Cody is probably out for at least 1-2 weeks. If he could play, we would be lucky to not get negative running yard considering how our OL play against tough DL.

We got a a little bit more confidence in the running game, which is essential to keep us in the game. Hope for more good news coming out during the week......

Nothing is a sure bet, but...

...if you have any unpaid consumer debt you have a great shot to get even by taking Bama and laying the points.

It reminds me of Scottie Ferrell in the 90s; every week after Florida kicked our butt he would come out with the next year's lock of the week: FLORIDA OVER TENNESSEE.

Fulmer 1-9 against top ten teams at home this decade. Avg margin defeat 16 pts.

Bama 31 TN 13

Never bet against Tennessee

Unless your goal is to make money on the wager. Just kidding...sort of.

Actually, i always thought betting against Tennessee was like a psychological hedge. It works like this.

Take the opponent. TN wins and the lost wager is simply a raised level of admission or 'buying the win'. TN loses and it compensates you for the pain. In other words it's like buying team insurance, similiar to a put option.

Exactly. I always bet on UF every year. If we win, I'll gladly pay with the vig. Same thing here, I'll load up on Bama. If we win, I'll be happy. Nightmare scenario, Bama wins by 3. I don't think I'll have to worry about that, unfortunately.

Yeah that is exactly why I dont bet on football. Your nightmar scenerio. I dont know why but I have a feeling that something like that might happen this week. After Ky I thought bama would beat ole miss handily. They had another close one. This one is against a division rival of course but given what happend last year I could easily see bama overlooking this game.

Why we have a shot.
1) Home field advantage, revenge from last year+ ruining their perfect season.
2) Losing Cody is huge since he plays nose guard in a 3-4 defense. Hopefully this will help us run the ball better than their previous opponents.
3) They are 11th in the SEC in passing, and we are tied for first in interceptions.
4) We will stop the run like Kentucky did and hold them to under 20 points.
5) Stephens has to continue to not turn the ball over.

I hope Eric Berry knocks Julio's head off and says, "Welcome to the SEC, biatch!"

Here is why TN is at a disadvantage, in addition to the 'they are better' line.

1. We have no home field advantage anymore. Fulmer 1-9 against top 10 this decade.

2. Saban and Steele are master game planners at taking away what you prefer to do. Cody or no Cody, they will not let us run the ball.

3. See number 2. They will have pressures and coverages that will be very confusing for Stephens to deal with, esp. with half our playbook tied behind our back. His no INTs streak will come to an end this game by throwing into coverage.

4. We may be able to control their run, but I don't see stopping it.

5. As good as Berry is, unless we come up with some effective pressure packages they will make enough plays on our secondary to control the game.

6. Bama will be better prepared than we will be. And they are already a better team.

7. Our WRs will be forced to have their best games of the year against an aggressive, well coached secondary.

The game should be close---it would be tough to take UT and the points, however. I would need 7.5 or more.

as much as it pains me i would take bama and give the points, ut is going to need a lot more than five to be competive in this game. you can rule out all those home field advantages./last years beat down/ etc... what you have is a smarter coach with saban, better coached team in bama coming to town. they will run what they want when they want and theres not a thing washed up fulmer can do about it

They are 11th in the SEC in passing because they are #1 in rushing.

We are 9th in rushing and 8th in passing. We are 11th in first downs. We are last in time of possession, Alabama is first.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing more I want to see than Tennessee to beat Alabama by a landslide. I'll be there in Section N cheering them on. I just hope we can get something going on the ground to take the pressure off of Stephens.

Those stats tell the tell. I doubt we get more than fourty snaps against them. They'll chew up clock, convert third downs and wear our defense out. Just like florida and georgia have already done.
