Keys to victory:
1) When guarding Davison watch the ball not the hair

2) Don’t leave their other two Muppets open for 3’s

In the opening minutes against Arizona the Vols were more physical than I remember seeing them this year. I think UT learned from the TTU game that they have to be more physical. If the Vols play physical basketball, they will beat a lot of teams.

Also, Kennedy needs to grow up pretty quickly. I may be wrong about this, but he looked a little lost against Arizona. Hope he gets things figured out.

Kennedy / Davidson matchup should be fun to watch. 2 NBA point guards going at it. Vescovi and JJJ defense on their shooters will be big. Might be a game we see less of Powell or ZZz due to defensive shortcomings.

Force Bama to score in the half court. If they aren't running in transition, they are a very average team. We can't wear them down. We can run with them but it's just silly. If you look at Gonzaga or the other uptempo teams they've played, it's went in their favor. Davidson was so effective in the half court, Jax St about bit them slowing the game down. I'm betting the under and thinking the Vols pull this one out in an ugly game.

We dont beat Bama in Coleman for whatever reason. We will have to play our best game so far this year. Chandler will have to make a positive impact as well. He was a no-show for Arizona as far as offensive production.

Chandler had a very much off night shooting the ball, but he wasn’t horrible. Not an impressive statistical night but in 34 minutes he only had two turnovers and two fouls. Assist totals can be very deceptive as blown layups and extra passes negate them. Plus he was drawing all sorts of attention from Arizona’s defense which created better looks for the other 4 on the floor. Even with the unimpressive stats, TN probably doesn’t win without him.

I'm sure the stats would shoot holes in this impression, but it sure seems like when we're cold shooting, we're cold as a team. You'd think at least one of any three shooters would be hot--even warm--on any given night.

If anyone has read a study of the (perceived) phenomenon in basketball (or other sports), please share and increase our armchair basketball IQ.
--------
EDIT--late thought: Maybe hot shooting operates on the Pareto Principle, so that on any given night, on average, only 1 of 5 shooters will be hot. And if that one is sitting on the bench with an injury, or because his defense doesn't match up to the opposition that night... yeah, that might explain why we might have four guys all pranging the rims at the same time.

I hate to say it but I have a feeling this game is going to be canceled the way Covid is making the rounds among college teams lately.
Some of the most anticipated games have already fallen prey to it and Alabama is just the sort of place that's ripe for infection.

Last year, they beat our defense by spreading the floor so far that we could not help each other, and they worked one on one with us, often getting to the rim if our defender played them too tight or hitting a three over us if we gave them some room. That kind of attack is difficult for slower, less quick players like Vescovi and ORN, and any poor defenders we may have on the floor will get exposed. We may have to go zone and make them make threes if we can't keep them in front of us. It'll be interesting to see what Barnes cooks up for this one.

I have zero faith in SEC officiating. With that said, it all depends on who the refs are targeting and what they are looking for.

Bad take on Vescovi as he’s of at least average SEC quickness as a wing

As with Arizona, a fast start. When we don't start fast we have a lot of trouble recovering. It will also be nice if Fulky is aggressive and looking to take it to the basket.

The key to the game is to say a prayer that the Alabama team that played against Memphis is the one that shows up and not the one that played Gonzaga.

We probably don’t beat the latter team. They were making everything in that game. Alabama is an incredibly streaky team. They’ve not played well since that game and they’re definitely due for a “get right” game, so I fear even if we play great defense we might be in trouble.

Pessimistic take, I know. We just don’t play well in Coleman even against bad Alabama teams.

Gonna be a tough game; IF played. bama is desperate for a Win, and on their court will be hard to beat. That said, I'm afraid the Sports season is in Jeopardy. Too many cancellations. Really pisses me off. Man made Problem....

There are enough fully or mostly vaccinated teams that the season really shouldn’t be at risk. Maybe some games here or there, but there’s not really much risk of an all-out cancellation. And since all our rotation players are fully vaccinated, UT is in good shape. If anything, we get a slight competitive advantage out of it!
