Would’ve Heupel had to sit out a year had he left UCF for another AAC job? Does Rodney Garner have to sit out a year?
No but they can be fired over countless contingencies. It’s apples and oranges. They do this for a living and have mortgages and childcare expenses...real life stuff. Having to wait a year to play doesn’t sound so draconian in context. As it turns out, the magic of Twitter makes this a non-issue.

Some players also have childcare expenses and real life stuff

List let him go. I understand waiting to let the new coach get a chance to talk to him but if he still wants out there’s no reason to hold him hostage even if it means he will go to another SEC school. Why force a kid to play here when he doesn’t want to be here?

And most get help from the university...Disney had a movie about a Clemson player who raised his brother. Somebody’s taking care of Washington and his brood down at UGA. Coach gets fired after his contract expires and he’s on his own.

How many coaches do you know that get fired and don’t end up just coaching somewhere else or getting a handsome gift to go away?

Does DW understand what’s he’s doing?

did he really think no one would care with his dumb ass decision in the first place?

So dumb not to have just done this on the front end
Learning at the P5 level.. do you think anyone cares if this is at UCF?? Nope. We’re in a much brighter light.. lesson learned

I'm not inclined to necessarily take that first report as fact, considering all the misinformation we've seen lately.

LOL whose fault is it that coaches have childcare expenses? Maybe they shouldn’t have kids if they know they can get fired. See how that works both ways?

Completely different. Coaches can get other jobs that pay. If you are a college player, just wrap up. Simple as that.

Zero integrity, zero accountability...thats what coaches, institutions and the NCAA are teaching these kids. It follows them forever and they pass those same flaws onto the next generation. This has got to be fixed now. Remove greed and entitlement and pure sports and competition may someday return to us. So tired of the corruption. I hope the damage can someday be repaired.

You can’t remove any of that from the college game while coaches make millions of dollars, schools make hundreds of millions of dollars from tv contracts, and brands are competing over schools to outfit in their latest gear.

The greed and entitlement lies squarely with the institutions.

As with all things, it’s the adults who are to blame because they built a business model around the kids and turned the kids into a product.

That whole “reap what you sow” thing. The reaping has only just begun.

I just hope that Josh Heupel and staff make sure they sign all letters and texts and tweets with ‘University of Tennessee Employee’ so that the 15, 16, and 17 year old high schoolers commit to the school and not a coach going forward. Also, make sure the messages only refer to ‘UT will prepare you for the NFL’, not Rodney Garner (or Gardener for half of this board).
