'20 AL ATH Kristian Story (Alabama Commit)

Did we let this one go after the decommit or are we still pushing to stay in this one?

I would think that our new DB coach could help get us back into the conversation. I expect for us to get some good DBs because there is playing time and good coaching to be had.

I think he’s real interested in playing QB. He’ll give schools that entertain that idea at least credibly, the most consideration imo.

I think he pledged to UT in order to prod other schools to offer. He now holds several and moist think he won't leave Ala.

"They’re a finalist because it’s a family feeling there and coach Ansley is there, who’s always believed in me and actually gave me my Alabama offer back in 9th grade. Also, I’m really confident coach Pruitt will get them back to their winning ways."

"Kristian is one of the more unique athletes, specialists in Alabama over the past five years or so. There are few players who have led their teams to a state championship in football as a quarterback, who can translate to so many different positions at the next level, including quarterback. I know several SEC schools are still considering him at the next level," said Garcia. "Athletically, physically, he's a gifted kid. His quarterback background gives him an IQ that translates to wide receiver and defensive back, where he has extensive experience, not only on Friday nights, but in the offseason circuit. I know he played for Cam Newton last year. Last year he was playing a lot of defensive back and he was really effective as a true cornerback. Projection-wise, it's really about picking your poison. I tend to think that he functions best with the ball in his hands in the evolving world of college football offenses. I think he can project as an interior wide receiver, H-Back, or both. I think you can sort of build a package for him within an offense, whether it be simple touches to gadget plays, he's a jack of all trades guy. There is no doubt in my mind physically, athletically, this kid can play in the secondary at a high level. He could play a hybrid role at safety or cornerback. His dad was a defensive lineman, so he probably still has room to grow, which is even more intriguing. There is a lot to like. There are still a lot of unknowns even though he has been a four-year starter, but either way, he's going to be a fun one to track at the next level."

On March 31, four-star athlete Kristian Story announced that he had a "final five" of Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Texas A&M. That may still be his top five, but a couple other schools have grabbed his attention this spring. Florida recently offered the star out of Lanett (Ala.) and Georgia Tech got him on campus. Both are expected to host him over the summer.

"Florida came by, offered and they are a school I want to check out more," said Story. "I will take a look at them for sure. I grew up watching Tim Tebow, so I know about what he did at Florida and I want to take a visit to see what it is like there. I will take an unofficial visit to Florida in June. "I plan on going back to Georgia Tech too. I have been there once since coach Collins took over and I really like him and the new staff. They have done an excellent job recruiting me, I like the new energy there and they are now just outside my top five. I am looking at Georgia Tech more than I was."

"I have official visits set to Texas A&M (June 7) and Notre Dame (June 21). I have visited Notre Dame once before, but this will be my first time at Texas A&M. "I love the winning tradition Notre Dame has and their academics are at the top. It would be the best of both worlds for me there with that combination. They like me as a safety and I have been talking to coach Joseph a lot too, so I have a good relationship going there as well. "With Texas A&M, I am excited about getting out there to see things for the first time. They like me at quarterback and coach Fisher has had some good ones. They have been showing consistent love and I feel I could do big things there at quarterback. I can't wait to see it."

"I was back at Alabama April 6 and I have visited there a lot," said Story. "They have still been coming hard, telling me I am one of their top guys and they have a lot to like. I grew up watching Alabama and I know their history, how they win and what coach Saban does there, so there is a lot for me to consider with them." LSU is a school Alabama has played a lot of big games against over the last decade and Story was in Baton Rouge in March. "I saw an LSU spring practice and it was my first time there — I liked it a lot. The coaches are very genuine there and there is a real family feel on that campus. I got to see the team work, spend time with the coaches and I will be back. I liked the overall feel there at LSU."

Story was at one time committed to Tennessee, and when he backed off that pledge last year, some felt the Vols were out of it for the versatile Alabama athlete. That is not the case. "Tennessee never did anything wrong. I have always had them high on my list. The feelings I had for Tennessee when I committed are still there. I just committed too early. "Them now having coach Ansley on their staff is huge. He is the coach that offered me first at Alabama. He and coach Pruitt are two coaches that believed in me early, so that means something to me. Tennessee is still up there for me."

He plans to commit October 5th on his birthday.

Odd. His top 5 a little over a month ago had Notre Dame and LSU in it. Now they've been replaced by GT and Maryland.

Tennessee, Alabama, and Texas A&M the only consistent ones. Has to think it comes down to one of those three. Unfortunately, considering (unless I'm mistaken) he hasn't visited or have any visits to us scheduled so its unlikely us.
