Does anyone know if the ban on carry-on liquids applies to unopened bottles of wine?

If so, anyone have experience checking cases?

Thanks for the help.

My understanding is that the ban applies to any outside liquid over 3 ounces. I have checked cases of alcohol a couple of times. It turned out ok. If there is a way to pack them in a manner that reduces the opportunity for breakage, I would certainly avail myself of that option if I were you.

Only experience I've had is sneaking vodka in a water bottle on the way to San Diego...

I'm sure if you can pack wine extra good then you could check it. But just the same as I'm sure you've heard guitar horror stories from airports, wine could meet a similar fate. All the bubble wrap and packing peanuts you can spare.

Just got back from a trip and they are dead serious about the 3oz rule. I am thinking that the wine would not be allowed on carry on. Good luck with the checked baggage. You might want to see if the winery has some sort of special packing for air travel.

Unopened bottles will not be allowed through unless they are 3.4 oz or less.

ALL liquid, paste, gel, cream, ANYTHING of like consistancy MUST be in 3.4 oz containers and then those containers MUST fit inside a quart-size zip top bag. AND IT MUST CLOSE. (Not a sandwhich bag, and not the larger gallon, the size in-between.) One zip top bag per passenger. Then, once you approach the x-ray, you must remove the zip top bag from your carry-on and place it into a bin with nothing below or on top of it.

There are no restrictions on liquids in checked baggage except in the case of the liquid being a hazardous material, such as gasoline, which would not be permitted.
