Ainge in the future......

Looked to me like it was single coverage and Ainge tried to "Favre" the ball in there, but the throw was late and behind the receiver.

Absolutely - it was a weird play too. EA rolled one way and threw from the far hash to the other sideline with a late throw he tried to muscle in there. The defender will always be on the inside of that pass and it would have to be perfect to get over the defender but not far enough for the receiver to make a play given the angle of the throw. IMHO, that play only works if the secondary blows the coverage.

On that "forced pass"... Ainge made the right read and did the right thing, but Bama came with an unusual look on D and their DE made an outstanding play.
I dont think that we are talking about the same play. On that particular play the DE dropped off in zone coverage and made a great play by great playcalling. We had a slant to Meach and he dropped right in the lane. That is going to happen. The play I was speaking of is a pass to Taylor on the opposite sideline. I think Bama took over on thier own 4 or something like that. But at any rate, Ainge responded well and moved the ball to win the game. Something we could not do last year.

We saw that accuracy in throwing a football is very difficult. Sometimes you can be off and Ainger certainly was for the first 2 quarters. But if you look as his completion percentage in the 2nd half it was very impressive. The ball that the DE tipped was not intercepted by the way.

The deep out route to Lucas Taylor from the opposite hash was actually open breifly, but Ainge threw the ball way too late. If he throws that pass 2-3 seconds earlier its a completion. I think he overestimated his arm strength in making that decision.

The INT on the pass to Brett Smith was a simple overthrow. Smith was open on the curl route and Ainge threw the ball over his 6'3 leaping outstreched arms, so it was very poorly thrown. It wasnt a bad decision though, just a horrible throw.

The last INT obviously meant little in terms of decision making or poor passing fundamentals because it was just a end of the half heave.

I think Ainge will continue to shine this year. Next year I am a little worried, because Swain and Smith will definitely be gone, and probably Meachem, as well. I'm not sure the other guys are quite ready to be the main guys yet. It will be important to hang onto Trooper so that he can coach them up.

we have some talent in the younger guys (slick shelly, austin rogers)

I beleive meach and ainge will be back one more year........looking for a NC:good!:
