Ainge in the first round?

I'd love to see it, but I'd say chances are that it will not happen. On top of everything else a QB has to deal with, overcoming the loss of his top 3 receivers and a questionable running game will be a tall order.

If the OL plays well, and the receivers step up, I think he could be a first rounder.

If Ainge had a good complement of receivers like last year, I think it would be possible. But I think he'll have to be a combine star to get 1st round attention next year. I'll say 2nd-3rd round for now.

It is possible. He has the size and the arm strength to wow scouts, and he is intelligent enough to give a good interview and score well on the Wonderligchtdklftd test. The problem is that there are a lot of guys out there with the physical tools and a decent head on their shoulders. The difference between 1st and 3rd round for Ainge will come from accuracy (which was very good last year,) leadership, and on the field decision making, and those attributes can only be measured between the endzones.

i think if he does well without those receivers from last year it will rise his stock more than them staying ever would

I think it depends on what other QB's are in the draft next season. He will be going against Brian Brohm and Chad Henne from Michigan most likely.

at this point, not a chance. and he'd be lucky to get drafted. His 05 season will certainly scare some teams away.

:eek:lol: Ainge will be drafted. Probably not in the 1st round but he'll be drafted on the 1st day. If you think he'd be lucky to get drafted then you haven't been paying attention. The NFL scouts told him he would be a third rounder last year.

projections don't mean anything when it comes to the actual day of the draft. look at quinn. nobody expected him to drop as far as he did. but if chris leak can go undrafted, so can ainge. maybe i was exaggerating a little bit. but i can definitely see him not going the first day.

The difference though is that whatever the projections and stats say, Erik Ainge does at least have NFL size and arm strength; two things that Chris Leak lacks.

I do agree with you though that it's not farfetched to envision him not being taken on the 1st day. There were only 5 QBs taken on the 1st day this year. There are plenty of good college QBs that don't get drafted on Day 1.

Plenty of people expected Quinn to drop. There just weren't that many teams in need of a QB. He was projected to go first round and he went first round. Chris Leak went undrafted because he doesn't have an NFL body. Ainge won't have that disadvantage.

If Ainge makes a big progression from 06 to 07 like he did from 05 to 06, he can most definitely be a first rounder. If he listens and learns from Cutcliffe, the sky is the limit for him.

True. But it's all hearsay right now. Ainge has still got this season to weather before the scouts make their final judgement.

to the 22nd spot?

Once the Dolphins passed him up, then yes. Miami was kind of seen as his last chance based on need. It was up in the air after that about how far he'd fall.

I wouldn't have been surprised if the Jags had taken him, but I wasn't expecting it.

Even with the Jaguars trading down, they still had the chance to draft him at 21. I'm shocked they didn't with their lack of a QB.

I would say 2-3 of Brohm, Henne, Ainge, Woodson, Brennan, and JDB will be taken in the first round. Brohm is almost a lock. The last QB spot or two in the first round will be dependent on this coming season and performances at combines/workouts. There may be another QB or two(possibly mid-major types) that jump into this discussion.

I think he'l be a 2nd-3rd round pick. One thing they weigh is body of work. Ainge has what, seven games from his freshman year and a good last year. I think his stats take a hit this year with the situation at receiver. Plus they might see that he got injured in two of the three years he started as a negative.

But I'd be thrilled if he got drafted, even if it was the 7th round, just because we havent had a qb drafted in 10 years.
