Ainge Explains His Performance Against SC

I really think this whole dink and dunk, West Coast-ish, Bill Walsh offense we're running is starting to do a reverse effect on Ainge.

Yes, his Comp. % is good, but lets be honest here I'm being straight up for real when I say Burney Veazy could have a 55%+ Comp. % in this system.

The reverse effect which I'm speaking of is you have this system that has all these dump offs and curls that are so easy to hit and after a while it becomes routine. A QB will quit looking down field and so on.

Kind of like the old saying, "He can't see the dollar down the field because of the quarter in front of his face."

Does this make sense at all?

"It's like anything in any sport, ever," Ainge said. "Sometimes the ball comes out great. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes a pitcher's fastball is high and right. Roger Clemens is high and right for a few innings, or a game.

This is a first for me. I've never heard of a quarterback going through a slump. NEVER...

Business... just admit it. Ainge is an average college quarterback that will struggle to stay on anybody's roster in the NFL. The only thing he has going for him is his height and alleged arm strength (which we've rarely seen used since Cutty has been here).

really? never heard of a QB having an off day? that's ridiculous. QBs have a release point just like pitchers and timing / rhythm are keys to accuracy. in great QBs you see less fluctuation? but guys like Eli and Rex are perfect examples of a QB having it some days and not on others. you make yourself look silly with such wild statements about never seeing a slump.

exactly...anybody, I don't care what the occupation can experience a slump...

Arm strength isn't about 60 yard bombs.

...and I seriously hope the "QBs never have off days" comment was a bit of sarcasm.

His touchdown to Briscoe on 3rd and goal in the first half against South Carolina was a nice display of his arm strength.

i think part of it is you are also seeing what a toll it can take on a qb when he doesn't have bonafied playmakers at WR. go back one year, and we were getting the "big play" with much more regularity. this year, we have 3 good WR, but none that can stretch the feild, and i think after 8 games, defenses have figured that out. if your're a defense playing against us, keep everything in front of you and you can succeed. and while we haven't given up sacks this year, we've all seen EA get hurried and have to make quicker decisions with the ball, and more times than not, he's made good decisions, though at the time seeing a ball thrown in the dirt doesn't seem like a good decision, it does allow the offense to live to fight on the next down and not lose feild position or have a costly turnover.

and as much as i have been critical of the play calling at times, i also think that has been a direct result of the speed we lack at the WR position. the underneath stuff, curl routs etc....are the high % passes that will enable us to move the ball down the feild. then we take a shot or two, and some have been there, some have not. the biggest problem with our offense, imo, is our in ability to be consistent in the running game. i think our running game is better than last year, but at times we simply seem to choose not to run the ball.

and yes, it is possible for a qb to go thru a slump. qb's that don't have running games, or WR's at times will struggle. it's happened to the best of them.....elway, favre, etc.....When those guys were at their best, they had very good running games and/or a plethora of big play AND possession WR's/TE's. it's no different here.

This is his explanation of the SC game....was there ever a detailed recap of the AL game....I never heard it and I was interested in their feelings concerning the performance in that game.....I was so disgusted after that loss, I didn't read anything for awhile

I still have nightmares from that day....I think I just threw up in mouth thinking about it....

"We need to have that killer instinct when we come out in that third quarter and score a touchdown and make it 28-0 instead of 21-7." -- Ainge

As I recall, on our first possession of the 2nd half, we ran it up the gut on 3 straight plays...that's not exactly "killer instinct"...If you're content punting it right back to the other team, why would you be afraid to throw the ball? I was really angry with that possession.

I agree. Ainge shoulders a lot of the blame for being off on Saturday, but if you are at the game and can see the whole field, it's shocking how little separation our receivers seem to get. There just aren't very many easy throws for Ainge to make.

Widescreen HD is nice I agree with you...But I watched it on a Phillips Ambilight Plasma, if I could ever justify spending a couple grand a TV that would be the one i'd go with....the thing had orange lights coming out of the sides of it, sweet TV...

I don't know, in the first half at least the receivers were getting open and then Ainge's pass would hit the dirt or fly way outside their reach. I also concur on the 50" DLP being money.
