I don't know if anyone else heard this but it sounds like the staff has finally admitted that Ainge has had a hurt shoulder for most of the season and that has attributed to us not throwing the football down the field. Per Jimmy Hyams. Anyone else hear this?

All I can say is that if this is true they did a good job of hiding it. His velocity looked OK for the most part on the intermediate throws.

Yeah, Cutcliffe was on the radio show here in Knoxville a few weeks back and had mentioned that. I believe the shoulder injury he suffered late in the Cal game was the injury that they had to be refering to.

Either way, another Ainge injury... more than likely that occured in the very first game of the season...

Well I guess we will never know how we really could have done I guess. Excuses, excuses, excuses. If Ainge was hurt we had 3 other QB's that could have come in that were healthy. I guess I just don't want to hear anymore excuses after Lucas Taylor became ineligible for the bowl game.

It makes me nervous about next year if we were unwilling to put Crompton in for a couple of games to let Ainge get back to normal. You'd think if he were really hurt we could at least rest him for Southern Miss. Also, if he couldn't throw deep, wouldn't it make sense to bring in Crompton during the Florida game when it was fairly obvious we needed some huge offensive play in order to have any hope at a comeback?

 Eric, between your Cutcliffe debate earlier and now this post, I'm thinking you may need some more sleep. :p

If this is an actual injury, I totally agree that they hid it quite well. But Erik threw some outs that were ~25 yard throws. He could have thrown some of those vertically as well but didn't.

I agree. If that shoulder was hurt, it sure didn't hinder his ability to get the ball to the outside quickly . . . except for that one time against LSU. :banghead2:

Well, look on the bright side. At least he threw a touchdown.

I bet it could have been on the opening drive when he fumbled when he got drilled.

I believe it was late in the fourth when he scrambled to his left to buy time. He was right beside the left sideline and got lit up. He was a little slow getting up after that.

However, it's not like we were throwing downfield a lot before that, anyway.

The throw to Foster that started out the Kentucky game was pretty far as it was across the field. He did not seem to have a problem throwing that ball. Also, if a shoulder is injured you would think it would come into play in a game like Kentucky when he made so many passes yet he looked fine at the end of the game.

They've talked repeatedly about getting him to deliver the ball in 2.5 seconds.

Ainge is injury prone and Cut designed an offense that prevented him from getting hit... but you sacrifice deep throws. Not even spotted apes can run a 40 yard pattern in 2.5 seconds with a db bump.

I follow the Vols as close as anybody with a 9 to 5. I didn't ever seem to catch on that Erik Ainge's shoulder was injured. Was that kept under wraps, or did you folks know about this and I missed the injury report somehow?

There's a guy that knows what's up.
