The Vols lacked the long ball speedster in the cal game. Paige has blazing speed and I think should see playing time as a freshman. The need for receivers to come in and play is there and Ahmad has the talent if he can adapt to the physical style. I think he needs to gain weight and muscle, but could be a star in a couple of years. He was the most productive receiver in the U.S. Army All-American game. Just some of my thoughts..GO VOLS!!

O'Neal, Vinson, Jones, and Moore all have similar speed and are more ready physically.

If I'm not mistaking the problem with the young guys isn't their speed...cause they have plenty to burn...but their grasp of the no huddle. Didn't O'Neal in particular have issues with lining up in the right place Saturday?

Obviously you can't teach speed like Paige, O'Neal, Moore, Vinson, and Jones have but at the same time you can't speed up how fast they learn a complicated system like the no huddle either. They could be the fastest men in the world but if none of them can line up right then they don't do us any good

I thought the menu system was to make it less complicated with selected number of plays for each guy...

Here's where I feel compelled to put on my armchair coach's cap and ask the following question: If you have all this speed sitting on the sidelines, or in redshirts, and you're afraid to use it because it cannot grasp your no-huddle then why not adjust your offense out of the no huddle? It's obvious that the defense has huge problems in areas ranging from knowing their assignments to fundamentals, like tackling, ergo, you have to put lots of points on the board if you expect to beat ANYONE. Do whatever you have to do to get your best athletes on the field.

But....the blocking......and......each receiver learning every position......

You mean do something crazy like make adjustements? Blasphemy! That's not Phil Ful.....Tennessee football!

I agree for the most part. However Ahmad Paige would be broken in half by a college level DB. He is not physically ready to play in the SEC. Little thing called foresight.

Then you simplify your schemes and put them in positions to achieve. It's amazing to me that Florida (Pearcy Harvin) and Cal (Jahvid Best) can find plays for their freshmen speedsters and put them in positions to achieve, yet we run plays where we line up slow footed and oft-injured Ainge as a receiver.

I am amazed as well, it seems over the past few years UT hasn't gotten the best out of all their talent.

Other than the physical problems of a bum hamstring and hands that can't catch the ball. haha

Moore, Jones, Rogers, and Taylor aren't much bigger than Paige with only having about 10 lbs on him, but they're more compact with the exception of Rogers who is 6'2" 185 compared to Paige at 6'3" 175. 10 pounds doesn't seem like nearly as much weight when you're 6'3" as it does if you're 6'0".

I think Vinson, Rogers, and Moore all should put on another 10 pounds going into next season, along with Paige obviously.

I guess at Tennessee, our players can't play unless they weigh a certain weight. I guess DeSean Jackson and Appalachian State's QB sure are glad they didn't come to UT. They may have never seen the field.

I hope Josh Briscoe never sees the field again... he frustrates the hell out of me

How big were David Palmer or Tyrone Prothro?

why are asking offensive questions? i don't think that was the greatest problem saturday. let's ask some special teams questions. i'll start. do we have anyone that can kick the ball on kickoffs with more distance. how about a defensive question? i'll start this one also. when will ben martin be healthy?

Cal does not have even close to the best defense we will see all year - asking offensive questions is not totally unimportant. Our ST and defensive weaknesses were more exposed by Cal because of their superior ST and Offense - but that does not mean our offense can be equally exposed by a good defense.

ST: If Britton Colquitt can heal up and the coaches feel that he won't re-injure himself with kickoff duties, he is a good option. Apparently we have a walk on (see other thread about black 33) who can kick between the 10 yard line and the goal line - but he is coming off an injury and is not consistent yet. So, there are options.

Defense: Martin's injury was listed at 2-4 weeks. This week will make 2. He will not play against USM, but may be ready by the time we make our trip to Gainesville.

Devin Mathis was kicking from the 40, thus explaining the good length on kickoffs. If he kicks those from the 30, they fall between the 10 and 20.

Ahh..now that you say that I remember someone/something mentioning the 30..it must have been in reference to him not kicking from it. Well...he better get better than that if he is going to be an option because that is clearly not good enough. Thanks for clearing that up, ViA
