I think this is a key question you need to ask yourself before getting too worked up. It's kind of like recruiting where eveybody is an expert based on highlight videos. I just don't see how most of us can possibly know very much about the nuances of an assistant coach hire.

Were along for the ride, just have to trust kiffin with these hires.

I'm a firm believer if we have success on the field and people like what they see, they'll come no matter who the coaches are.

How many 5 stars have we had over the past few years that didn't pan out? We didn't have one last year, 07' we had 4 and 2 have yet to even play, maybe they are bust but Fulmer's reluctance to give them a shot is not their fault. If they don't play this year, then I will give you there are a couple of bust in that class that are 5's. In 06' we didn't have any either. I agree the 3's and 4's are important, but getting more than four 5 stars in the last three years is important as well. I am going by scout's ratings so it might be a little different from another site. If we could start landing 4 or more 5 stars a year I think we could handle 2 of them being a busts.

We should never recruit players like Al Wilson, Bruce Wilkerson, Scott Galyon, J.J. McCleskey, Dale Jones, etc. Those type players are not good enough for our system.

One of the problems with Phillip Fulmer was that he recruited to the star system and could not assess talent on his own. Look at the Reynolds kid that went from Knox Carter to starting for Butch Davis at UNC. We got beat by a South Carolina team this year that was full of 3 stars.

Go figure. If you believe in the star system then you are saying that people like Hubbs has better assessment skills than your coaches, which has probably been true for several years around here. But see what that that got us!

Sorry... I have been away with a family member that is in the hospital.. So what happened??? Did we lose some more recruits?? I'm not sure what the 5 star comment is about..I saw where it was thought that Chavis and Coach O both were headed to LSU.. Sorry again I'm just not sure what the thread is about..

Oh.. OK I understand now.. I'm not sure what the 450K means though. I thought we offered him 600K and he took less that that to take the Job at LSU.. I could be wrong but I thought it was he wanted to stay down there and didn't want to come to UT at all... I think a lot of people (including myself) thought he would sign on at UT simply because of the Kiffin's and we were wrong if does go to LSU.. I can't really blame him for staying down there if that was what his family wanted.. I would think that would be more important that the Kiffn relationship or any other coaching relationship...

If it was Coach O then Lane would have been a genius, yet he hired a possible genius that no one knows and some of us are freaking out.

I wont say I'm not upset that we probably are not getting Coach O but he is a lil suspect to a few violations in recruiting.

So if they are going to make Coach O assistant Head Coach would that put him above Chavis? Seems like a convoluted mess if that is the case.

Who cares about the nuances of the assistant coach in question when you can see that he doesn't look as cool or physically attractive as other candidates, therefore obviously can't relate to recruits or coach said recruits?

Basiclly it looks like this to me.. Could be wrong, but it looks this way.. This is what you get plain and simple to me if I were a HC hiring someone...

Coach O can sell the school to any recruit and get them there...

Chief can sell the NFL and get them there.. Look how many he has put through.. I can't remember the guys name that we had the year before last years seem like he won some kind of Rookie award this year.. HMMM what was his name (sounded something like hold the Mayo), Recruits will eat that stuff up...

I think a lot of people are just miffed because they thought Coach O was going to come running up here waging his tell because Kiff told him too.. It never occured to some of us (including me) that hey maybe the guy doesn't want to come to UT and that he doesn't think the Kiffs walk on water.. I hope we still have a chance at coach O, but who could blame him for staying down there were his family likes it so much.. I think he just built a new house down there.. For all we know he may not have the faith in CLK that we do and didn't want to chance on moving his family up here..Look at what happened to Clawson's family (not saying he shouldn't have been let go, but I don't think any coach believes 1 and done is a good thing) Plus LSU isn't exactly the hardest place to recruit to either..
