I am extremly happy to have Jim Chaney as our offensive coordinator. I know LSU relies on their defense and runs a very vanilla offensive, but MSU looked pathetic. Jim Chaney's offensive is the most dynamic I can ever remember watching at UT. Thoughts?

I agree with ya on coach Chaney. He's gonna get a BIG raise this year.

What's scary about lsu tho is their D. I dont know who spent more time in msu's backfield...lsu's d or msu's rb's. Looked like msu's rb's were trying to get out and they didnt care if they had the ball or not.

Honestly, I don't know how we're going to begin to try and block that. Bray may throw the ball 55 times from the shotgun against LSU.

Relf is awful. He had plenty of time at points to do something - run, pass, lateral, whatever - and he just stands there and gets sacked. LSU's D-line is formidable, but the pressure they applied to MSU's backfield was less about their potency than about the Dawgs' bumbling, unimaginative offense. They would have been much better served handing the ball off 40 times to Ballard, who is a really good back.

I do not buy into this notion that Mullen is a great offensive mind. The offense I saw last night was pathetic. Tebow would have delivered a D1 HC post to Randy Sanders.

I've really begun to hate LSU and the reverence with which the program is discussed in the media. What is our historical record versus them? I'm pretty sure we've won twice as many as they have, yet you'd be led to believe listening to ESPN that football begins and ends in Baton Rouge.

3rd and Chavis was evident a few times...

But Relf really did stink it up. His receivers weren't getting open though. Bumpus (sp?) is pretty good but LSU smothered their receivers for most of the game. I am very surprised MSU didn't run the ball any better than they did.

What LSU has done since Saban was hired there in 2000,I believe, is pretty solid. They've more than held their own against the rest of the SEC.

LSU is beatable. They can't score and MSU was able to move the ball on them quite a few times, if they capitalized and scored TD's instead of FG's they might have won. Unlike MSU and LSU, UT has a passing attack. Sure their D is stacked but LSU isn't as scary as advertised.

That Defense was disgusting and I shudder to think what their D-line will do against us. All I could think about while watching last night. All the respect in the world to my beloved Vols and what our O-line has done to improve, but I am not looking forward to that matchup.

ATM I am just not that impressed with LSU.. that could very well change before we play them, but as of now if we were playing them this week I would be predicting a win. Hopefully it stays that way until we see them...

Read the Sports Illustrated account of LSU's win last night. The defense is in superb physical condition as well as being eight deep. This looks very much like Dallas Doomsday Defense and/or the 1970's Tampa defense during the Alsott era.

You've got to be kinding me.
I was so glad the "QB in the shotgun, Clap me the ball" is not part of our offense.
Sanders was decent, but its too early yet to put him ahead of Chaney.

Bet UT sets offensive records this year, points and yardage..

LSU hit MSU for 15 tackles for a loss. They may be beatable but their defense looks like it can put a beating on an offense. You have to bring not your "A" game for them but an "AAA" game.

Wasn't MSU also down two starting lineman? Not taking away from LSU, just saying...I'm pretty sure our OL is better than MSU's, especially down a couple starters.

Hope you're right on all accounts.

MSU did not move the ball on them quite a few times.

2 drives with 27 plays, 111 yards and 3 points is not what I would call moving the ball on them well. Also, considering those were their 2nd and 3rd possessions of the game... they got shut down and got a total of 88 yards the rest of the game.

MSU lost to an Auburn team that isn't very good. Remember Auburn should have lost to Utah St. MSU's 531 yds of offense vs Aub sounds impressive until you note that Utah St had 448 AND scored more points.

LSU may be as good as you fear but I think we can count on Miles and Chavis to give UT opportunities to win. MSU's OL was already a big concern then they had a guy go down in the first series. I am not sure their OL vs LSU's DL provides a very good gauge.

2 drives for 27 plays and totaling 111 yards isn't moving the ball? I would say that's exactly what that was. And yeah they only scored 3pts that's why I said IF they were able to get TD's instead of FG's they might have won. But you're right after those early drives they were pretty much shut down. Which is because they couldn't pass the ball.

Maybe MSU's offence was overrated going into the game. I'm pretty sure LSU's offence has some issues. Relf rushed 16 times for a grand net of 10 yards and I thought he took waaay too much time in the pocket when looking to throw. It's early but its appears that we have an incredibly much better passing attack than MSU, that and the fact that we have other talent that we prefer run the ball suggests that LSU will not be able to bring 6, 7, and 8 men on the rush against us, not without paying a hefty price. Remember this, a sloppy offensive performance makes even an average defense look freaking awesome! Case in point, Oregon threw an interception, lost 3 fumbles, and was assessed 95 yards in penalties against the tigers but still significantly outperfomed them in yardage.

LSU, or anyone for that matter, can be intimidating if you are the type to get intimidated. At this point I don't think we are in that camp this year but there were a couple times on offense where LSU looked completely rattled. LSU has a journeyman QB at best, a Matt Simms maybe, or Brantley type. We have a franchise QB with two franchise WRs and at least one journeyman RB and TE. It will be a different game when LSU comes to Knoxville and they should be undefeated if they can handle WV.

I enjoyed the game last night and I think LSU has a good defense. I like their secondary. If we beat them, and I think we can and should, we will have cashed in on one more opportunity this year to "SHOCK THE WORLD!!"

GBO!!!

Anyone that didn't think LSU's defense was impressive is crazy! Their line is down right scary and the secondary is one of the best in the nation. Top defense in the country IMO. If LSU ever gets their offense clicking, they'll for sure win the national championship. I just don't see many teams, if any, that wouldn't be dominated by that defense.
