At Oklahoma State, Taylor replaces Larry Fedora, who was named coach at Southern Miss last week.
Cowboys Coach Mike Gundy and Taylor spent the 1996 season on the coaching staff at Baylor. Gundy contacted Taylor on Tuesday and a deal was reached Wednesday.
"I had a friend in this business who called and said, 'You know Trooper is out there,'" Gundy told The Oklahoman. "I really hadn't even thought about it because I wasn't going to do this until after the bowl."
Gundy, perhaps best known for a rant following a win against Texas Tech in September, said he hasn't decided who will call the offensive plays next season.
"We're still working through all that to see what we think is best," Gundy said. "I didn't feel there was any reason to bring a guy from the outside to implement his system, rather bring in a guy who fits our system. Trooper is good with that."
Taylor's salary at Oklahoma has not been released, but because of his coordinator title, Taylor is expected to receive a significant raise. In July, Taylor received a $36,790 raise bringing his salary to $175,000 and making him UT's highest paid non-coordinator. BTW, whoever try to tell me Trooper was the highest paid assistant coach is wrong as I thought so at the time but now am sure he wasn't.

"not as loyal?" i try not to read between the lines, but still i get the clear implication that you feel that trooper was a little 'uppity.' guess he should have known his place, huh?

personally, i wish him the best. he did UT a great job and i think okla. state will get the same kind of service. i hope the majority of vol supporters feel the same way.

up or out is what its all about. if he doesn't have the savvy to be an o.c. and someday, a h.c., then he's in the wrong field. personally, i think he'll do fine.

Moving up to a better position and more money has little do with a lack of loyalty. It's a natural progression.

Or do you expect every coach at Tennessee to give up career aspirations and stay a position coach forever?

It's also like expecting every player that came to play here at UT coming back to visit.

This Thread is just in existance to stir more crap up... Get a Life and let him go and let this go. It is done and over with...finished... Close the book or rewrite the chapter... Focus on music instead...write a country song about broken love, hearts or divorce...

I'm not getting the loyalty thing either. How can you bang on a guy for advancing his career?

Good luck Trooper, hope you do very well at OkSt. and end up back at UT someday. Appreciate your efforts while on staff.

As to the all is said and done, to quote Charles Barkley, "When it's all been said and done, there ain't nothing left to say or do!"

Probably good advice on this particular topic.:salute:

I guess being a mediocre coach that stays where they are only because no other schools want them is mistaken for loyalty these days ('cough' Chavis 'cough' Fulmer).

I just read some comments by Trooper Taylor on Govols.com and it sounds like UT has lost a class individual. Good luck Troop.

Oh come on. Get off it.

Didn't you know that the only reason UT hired him was so they could keep him down?

Loyalty has nothing to do with leaving for a better job. He could stay as a career WRs coach at UT or leave and have a chance at being a OC and maybe a head coach in the future. Not that I think he would make it as far as a head coach and i'm not sold on him as a OC either but a OC job is a step forward.

Good luck Troop. It was fun while it lasted.

P.S. Maybe Gundy can put you in charge of keeping women out of his pressers.

Everyone seems to think Phil told Trooper he wouldn't advance at UT.

Anyone ever think that Phil told Trooper, sure, I'll interview you as a candidate when I begin the search in January?

And Trooper decided to take the current opportunity versus waiting to see if he could get the UT opening.

Nope. If Chavis and Troop we inches away from a fight earlier in the season, I can only imagine the chaos that would ensue with Trooper as OC. Chavis is Fulmer's boy. I don't think Trooper ever had a shot of getting OC.
