Hi everyone,

I'm sure this (or similar) has been posted 1000x before, but I got a FB message from couple of friends from here in Utah and they are flying to TN for the Utah State games. They hit me up for some local advice on things to do/see/EAT while they are in town. Since it's been close to 20 years since I lived in Knoxville, I wasn't much help. So if any of you are feeling generous and would mind handing out a few tips, that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance. :peace2:

Lonnie

Edit: as for logistics, they are flying into Nashville and driving to Knoxville. So anything along I-40 is fair game.

There is a nice power plant on your left as you drive towards knoxville. A really nice fireworks shop and a huge cross!

For a weekend trip I'd recommend:

Do/See: Boomsday, Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Drink/Eat: Downtown Grill & Brewery or anywhere in Market Square Downtown

Aggie fans need to know about the University of Tennessee? (The 1 thing you need to know is that 90% of the UT fans will welcome you to their tailgates, BUT just be respectful you are on our turf.)

Booms day is the Saturday before the game.

Get drunk and start an SEC Sucks chant at one of the local bars.

Then head to Gus's for a late night steamed sandwich and make sure to get the fries.

They may be expecting good BBQ since they're traveling to the "South." But Knoxville is not a good BBQ town (not a good food town in general). If they want BBQ, tell them to avoid Calhoun's (because it's awful) and the only decent choices are Dead End and Sweet P's.

Best tavern is Suttree's.

They'll enjoy walking around downtown.

I think they are going to be BLOW AWAY with Neyland Stadium.

My friends Nick and Stef are cool. They won't start any trouble. I sent them a link to this thread so they can follow it.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to post! :worship:

Don't actually go to East Magnolia, if you do don't bring your tickets to the game, any jewelry, anything vaulable, your wife, your kids, any food, a Mitt Romney sticker, also don't ask for directions. That is all

Where does this Smokey Mountain thing come from? Besides, they're coming from Utah where there's a wall of pretty good size mountains on the East side.

Yeah, but the Mountains here are totally different. For them it would be worth going the GSMNP to see the TREES!!

I'm a bit partial to the Wasatch Front. I just moved from Utah last year. If you're in the Ogden area, go to Remuda Golf Course in Farr West. They have outstanding BBQ.
