According to Will West, "negotiations" were always about getting more receivers, OL

And UCLA has no money.
Even if Nico was an All-American QB, why would anyone pay him $4 million a year ?He was making $2.4 a year at UT and now Nico and his family have burned that bridge, so I can't imagine there is going to be multiple teams bidding on him above the $2.4 million figure Tennessee was paying. I wouldn't be shocked if Nico loses money on this decision

That's why everyone saying they assume he already has a deal probably aren't speaking from reality.

I've not been following this story, so I have no bias one way or another. I just know that in any controversial, breaking story, THE TRUTH will be elusive and more money will be made off of speculation, innuendo, and half-truths.

For whatever it's worth, here's today's interview with Will West of 99.1 The Sports Animal, offering what he's been able to learn:

I have no confidence in Will West knowing anymore about “why Nico is leaving” than I do. I do know we are now dealing with minor league pro football at all of the major universities. Wait until a qb on a team headed for the playoffs threatens to go into the December portal if he doesn’t get a raise. It will eventually happen.

He may have screwed himself here. Whoever signs him after this will have to pay everyone else around him more money. Oregon may be his only option. Most other teams probably don't want the smoke and the headache he's become..
Something came across my feed where Dan Lanning said they weren’t even going to entertain it. Of course that’s today and you never know what can happen tomorrow, but this feels like a lot of programs aren’t going to touch this. Too much of a toxic element to it and schools are already struggling with NIL, xfer portal and roster issue.

I thought the word is Lanning is the one who tipped off Heupel that Nico was putting out feelers for a deal. I seriously doubt he wants anything to do with him.

I think Oregon is set at QB for a while with Moore, Novostad and freshman Akili Smith Jr in the QB room. Plus, if it's true Lanning called Tenn about Nico, it certainly doesn't sound like he'll land in Eugene any time soon.

You’re correct, but I saw something that came across my feed where it sounded like a reporter had asked Lanning after the fact and he said there was zero interest in entertaining that.

These people acting like Arch was born in Straw Plains and had parents met on campus. His uncle went here over a quarter of a century ago. That’s it. If he has any emotional attachment to another school, it’s Ole Miss, but he will never wear another college uniform.

Arch is his own man. Pressure is big enough on this stage, following Peyton or Eli at their alma mater would be massive.
Imagine if he came come to Tennessee and was just average. Oh my goodness

Im not the one suggesting he should. I think it’s laughable his name keeps coming up. People act like he’s a Tennessee royalty. As for the pressure part, I don’t think that matters. He’s going to have quite a bit of pressure at Texas, and maybe less grace then he’d have at an Ole Miss.

I was agreeing with you, and expressing my thoughts 👍

he already has lost money - all the NIL, he had and the IRS is on to him ( from reports of several posters on here )

And? I'm not even sure the point you're trying to make.

You were making the argument talent around a player doesn't matter cause scouts go by physical traits. I disagreed and showed how having an elite season statistically can catapult a player up the draft boards. You countered by arguing usually great production comes from a great player. I said sure great players have great production but so do busts. None of these markers is actually foolproof. Which goes back to my main point that having elite talent around you gives you as a player the opportunity to have elite production and improve your draft stock. You tried to argue as if inherent qualities make guys high draft picks rather than the external results. My argument is simple. Great production impacts your draft position and the talent around a player impacts their production thus the talent around you as a player matters if you want to be drafted highly. Are there outliers who can get drafted high without elite talent around them and not so elite production? Sure. But it's rare. Most players who get drafted high go to big time schools with lots of other talent and put up big numbers. The idea scouts just draft based on physical traits is not true.

yawn.

Of course nothing is foolproof. That changes nothing.

And no, supporting cast means nothing compared to other more tangible and measurable factors. Your measurables and film outweigh your college numbers by a mile.

If supporting cast doesn't matter then why did the top recruits before NIL almost always go to the most talented teams? Why did elite WRs go where there were elite QBs and vice-versa? Why did schools like Alabama stack talent upon talent? And why did those Alabama players get drafted high year after year?

To pretend the players around you don't matter when it comes to where you're drafted is laughable. It might not be necessary nor sufficient but it matters. And if your goal as a player is to get drafted high in the NFL draft then you'll definitely care about the talent around you because it'll effect your production and ultimately your draft position especially at dependant positions like QB and WR.

Why do top football recruits go to top football schools? Is that really what you’re asking? This isn’t the mic drop you seem to think it is.

Money. Better coaching. Competition. Prestige. Winning. Exposure. Girls. Etc….

None of those reasons have anything to do with nfl scouts being too dense to examine film.
