No doubt Gray finished some great runs.

But the key to the day, IMHO, was our OLine consistently getting movement.

I don't recall seeing this since Dobbs's legs were stretching the DLine.

With 5* Smith and the 2 5* Freshmen OL coming back, we should do some serious road grading in 2020.

We have turned into a pretty good team. I say that because, not only have we learned to win, but we’ve learned to win in different ways. Last week we threw it all over the place to win. This week we got it done on the ground. None of us want 7-5 but the last half of the season was definitely a step in the right direction. Hopefully we will take another step next year but first we have a bowl game to win!

Our O line has definitely improved , however, when you have a dynamic RB that hits the holes and has great vision, they make it easier on the O line. I said earlier in the season that Gray was our best RB. Why he barely received any action in the middle of the season is a mystery ? Reminds me of ALVIN Kamara. Dude is going to be a beast

he kept fumbling and was poor in pass protection.

Agreed. Gray’s 2 big runs were the result of the OL doing its job and creating a lot of space for Gray to run through. He showed good vision and good speed on those runs but neither time was he even touched. He had 153 of his 246 yards on those 2 runs alone because there were huge holes to run through.

He wasn’t hitting holes for most of the season and he was really bad in pass protection. There’s no comparison whatsoever between why he didn’t play and the Kamara situation with Butch. Jones didn’t play what everyone could see was the far, far better running back and fit for the offense because of politics in favor of Hurd, had to try and keep the disgruntled, in-state “star” player happy.

Also, Pruitt said in his presser that Gray hit a freshman wall, that he “lost a step” in the middle of the year...and anyone watching him play this year saw it. Gray wasn’t playing because he wasn’t running well, because he was bad in pass protection and because he had a fumbling issue as well.

Jordan runs hard but no way he takes either of those runs to the house.
If he hadn’t been touched on either run and had a head start like Gray did I think he would’ve. Jordan is certainly the least dynamic runner of our 3 that we have in terms of breaking runs, but if he or certainly Chandler were put in the same exact situation, a wide open hole where nobody lays a finger on them and there are no safeties in the back to try and run them down......I think they do the exact same thing Gray does.

The Vols could use another Big RB to compliment Grey and our other backs
Still need a stud, bellcow, all-SEC type running backs in the mold of a Lewis, Webb or Henry. Don’t have one on the roster and don’t currently have one coming in the next class. With the ones we have on the roster and with Tee Hodge coming in, we’ll have good, serviceable running backs but no studs that can control or take over a game on the ground.

I think Eric Gray will be the stud bell cow and will be a 1000 yard rusher

He missed a lot of blocks early in the season. Sometimes it takes awhile for a guy to understand that part of being a rb.

I actually think maybe he did have 1 vs Florida or someone early in the year come to think of it, heck I can't remember but I don't think he had a bunch, Chandler on the other hand was kind of disappointing this year

Did you literally not post in another thread that the only reason we won was because Gray alone had a breakout game and made "improbable runs"?

Make up your damn mind.

They just interviewed EG#3 on The Nation, recommended listening. Home state kid that wanted to be a VOL!

Edit, this young man is not a kid and is definitely a great rep for the University.

Let's also be somewhat realistic. He was rushing against the last place team in the SEC. It's not like he was breaking those against Florida, Bama, or Georgia. I'm tickled he and the OL were able to get things done as well as they did on a rainy night at home. I'd like to see those type holes and runs next season all the way through our schedule to make me a firm believer.

I wasn’t super impressed with him early on in the season, but he looked pretty awesome last night. Hopefully we works hard this offseason
