A tribute to Josh Dobbs: The 6 best games of his soon-to-be-over Vols career

4. SEC stunner: South Carolina, 2014

Tennessee trailed the Gamecocks 42-28 with 4:52 remaining, and it looked as if the Vols were headed for their sixth loss of the season – and it was early November. But Dobbs couldn’t be stopped late in the game as he continued to make big plays against a befuddled South Carolina defense.

Dobbs became the first UT player with 300-plus passing yards and 100-plus rushing yards in the same game. Dobbs finished with 301 passing yards, 166 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns and two touchdown passes. After Dobbs’ performance that evening, it was clear the Vols had an electric playmaker at quarterback.

1. Ending the streak: Florida, 2016

The Vols finally ended an 11-game losing streak against the Gators, thanks, in part, to Dobbs’ five touchdowns. Dobbs was 16-of-32 for 319 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 80 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. Dobbs was calm and collected – as usual – as he helped the Vols erase a 21-point deficit.

Dobbs was as explosive as he’s ever been through the air. All four of his touchdown passes were longer than 20 yards, and each came in the second half. As if any more proof was needed, Dobbs once again proved he could perform under pressure despite the score.

He isn't consistent, and not as talented as other great UT QB's. But Dobbs is who we needed at the time. A stable, high character leader, who has the chance to take over games and put the team on his back. He's the hero Knoxville deserves.

pretty cool. though is accuracy issues will forever be debated here:p...there's no doubt he's been great for the program and the right guy at the right time....on the field, off the field, it's hard not like the guy and just salute him for his efforts while on The Hill.

thanks Josh, a true VFL.:salute:

I would argue that the South Carolina game from 2 years ago was his best considering the situation we were in. It reminded me of when Peyton lead the Colts back with 4 minutes left to beat the Bucs many years ago. All hope was lost but somehow someway we pulled it out.

I haven't been an advocate like many others...vacillating between frustrated and elated by his play; when he's on....he's unstoppable, but when he's off...it seems really, really bad.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt he is a VFL, made a difference for the team the past 4 years and embodies the ideal concept of a student athlete.

Off the field, he is at the Peyton Manning level of character and face of the program. There aren't many college athletes as fantastic on and off the field as Josh Dobbs. I am glad he is a VFL. You know he will have a building named after him on campus some day.

When he was allowed to be spontaneous and creative, and not forced to throw from the pocket, he rarely EVER disappointed. The kid is a gamer.
