How about we wait until we are sure CBP is gone before we start talking about his replacement...
oh its great fodder for message board and all but the bottom line is as of right now Pearl is still the head coach at UT.

I know there are many out there praying for him to be gone(hat) and others saying he should be(law) but the bottom line is unless the university has definitive proof that there is going to be a coaching suspension it might not be the best idea to let him go.
Going to lose players on current roster, going to lose recruits for couple of years anyway and he has put bodies in seats that were not there before.. he brought interest back to the program and made it fun for non basketball people to get involved.
Now, if there is a 2 year suspension then I also think you have to let him resign and I think how the leak came was horrific.... but if they are going to go with the suspension already used or just another 8 gamer or something then keep him, keep the continuity he has brought to the university, keep the team, keep the recruits and make it known without a shadow of a doubt any other screw up and gone..........
people outside of message boards deserve 2nd chances too...and or thirds....he has been very good for the university of Tennessee...give him another chance

poll on our website, govolsxtra.com, offers the choice: Who do you support more, Pearl or Hamilton?

As I write this, 11,907 voters have responded.

The guy who lied to the NCAA got 91 percent.

The guy who publicly revealed Pearl's job was in peril two days before the NCAA tournament got 8 percent.

How to explain those numbers, especially after the most unpleasant of Pearl's six seasons just ground to a halt?

I don't recall what Jerry Green's approval rating was after a 30-point NCAA loss in Charlotte in 1999, but 91 percent doesn't ring a bell.

It could be because Pearl produced UT's two winningest seasons ever, 31 in 2008 and 28 in 2010.

It could be because of the first outright SEC championship since 1967 and the school's first No. 1 ranking, both in 2008.

It could be the school-record six straight NCAA tournament bids, the longest active streak in the SEC. Eight of UT's 16 all-time NCAA tournament wins came on Pearl's watch.

It could be that Pearl's energy and success got Pratt Pavilion built and Thompson-Boling Arena converted from an aircraft hangar to a terrific environment for basketball.

It could be that UT's home crowds jumped 5,504 per game in Pearl's first year and the Vols have stayed in the top five nationally in attendance ever since.

It could be that the Vols lead the SEC in league wins (65-31) since Pearl arrived, or that his teams are 36-27 in true road games, 31-17 on neutral sites and 26-20 against ranked teams.

It could be the OUTLIVE money he's helped raise to boost cancer screening. Or the Dane Bradshaw Scholarship he endowed.

It could be orange body paint or the orange blazer. Or that he would promise a crowd the Vols were going to whip Memphis' or Florida's (rear end) and then do it.

No one could debate that Pearl brought the good times to town. He awoke a sleeping giant.

The good times, however, have been fewer this season. And like a character in a Shakespearean tragedy, Pearl primarily has himself to blame for his fall.

If this is indeed the end, it's too bad. Usually, schools fire a coach who couldn't win or couldn't recruit or didn't fit in, or whose time had simply run its course.

This time, though, it's an absolute freaking hero.

Hasn't the NCAA has done everything but hire planes pulling banners over the UT campus to indicate that sanctions are coming?

Saying that poll is a positive for Pearl is like bronchitis claiming victory because it's more popular than the flu.

Wow....you have to be pretty desperate to use an unscientific internet poll as "proof" that Pearl should stay. Not to mention as GAVol points out, that poll is asking which one is least hated, not should Pearl stay.

The fact that this is about the 10th time I've seen this poll referenced is pretty sad.

more the points in the poll listed than the poll...could care less about the numbers of the poll...
my bad should have stated that..

there has been no definitive proof except from naysayers that a coaching suspension is coming...look at the tressel situation even...he has done worse or at least as bad as pearl and may get a 5 game suspension..half the season...and the first half of season when they play the schools of the blind.
Pearl got an 8 game suspension and I seriously doubt the ncaa will serve him with another year.....
If that doesnt happen...then all the things listed in that diatribe if you will are reasons to keep the man that has proven his loyalty to UT in many ways and has brought the program up.

I find it funny that Pearl supporters point to Tressel for support of their argument. Pearl is at the end of his investigation. Tressel is at the beginning. What is so hard about that to understand?

I saw a post last night where someone used it to claim that Pearl had a "91% approval rating". People misinterpret polls like that to justify whatever point they want to make, and it's just kind of sad. Anyone who has followed the situation knows that you could have a poll between Hamilton and Bernie Madoff in Knoxville and get mixed results. The poll says far more about Hamilton's lack of popularity, Pearl supporters knowledge of how to spam online polls, and the overall knowledge of GVX readers than it does about Pearl's true status.

Um, I'm sure that people will continue to come to the stadium if we keep Pearl and he's suspended for two years.

That exactly what HATINGBAMAISAWAYOFLIFE just did.

What do you mean? They'll need the curtains at TBA again if anyone but Pearl is coaching at Tennessee. Pearl is the only coach who can win at UT :crazy:

The GVX poll and the 37 people rallying this afternoon will surely save Pearl's job.

Come on dude, it's more like 40.

Also, a semi serious thought. How is this rally going to do anything? I'm pretty sure Hamilton won't notice or see it.

This is the logic I love; if Pearl goes then suddenly nobody cares and it's like UT basketball never existed. BUT if Pearl stays and we're hammered with violations that basically kill the program for the next 5 years, then everyone is still going to pack TBA to watch bad basketball.

Seriously, that makes no sense at all. If we keep Pearl by the end of next season everyone will be wondering why we didn't just fire Pearl.

Hero? Really? Asking a kid and his dad to lie for you makes you a hero? Pearl has done some good things in his time here, as it pertains to charity. It could be argued that some of those things were PR based, but nonetheless, they were good things. But nothing about this current scandal speaks to Pearl being a hero. A hero would have manned up and admitted when he was caught. A hero wouldn't have risked his players future, nor the image of the university he represents, by lying over something as stupid as a cookout.

The hand writing is on the wall .. Read it !! .. Why do most people think that if you think that Pearl has to go that you must hate him ?? .. He seems like a pretty good person .. But he really made a mess of things ..there is no waiting to June when it will be too late ... GO VOLS !!!!
