A thought about Evan Berry

He hasn't had many opportunities for KO returns this year, but the guy looks electric with the ball in his hands. Unless there are plans for him to play a significant role at DB this year or next, I would like to see him play flanker as Josh Smith is playing now. Thoughts?

A comment on the Florida game. Though the pregame and halftime interviews with the coaches are probably excessive and useless, I enjoy seeing Allie Laforce do our games. She had a cute, encouraging smile for Butch on his plans for the 2nd half. It might have put an extra kick in his step just when he needed it.
How did that work out for his brother??

Id love to see Lil Berry used in the same capacity as Pig was. Also think he could do damage as a punt returner, but maybe he cant field those.

Does any of the volnation "in the know" residents know why he isn't in the secondary more? Could he not do what Martin does?

I'm guessing. My theory is that running and juking with the ball is one thing. Putting a stick on someone like Gaulden was doing ( and big brother Eric used to) is another. Safety's and corners need to know how to tackle. I think he's more of a threat on offense. Put the ball in his hands.

I have complete trust in coach after this weekend. No questions asked. If he doesn't have Berry in the game other than KO then that's what is best. CBJ earned my unconditional trust until further notice.

He would probly excel as a RB in the eye or single back formation really. His isn't very shifty, but he has an NCAA football vision rating of 99. He sees the field and all of the cutbacks. He also has break away speed. Hes listed at 5'11'' 207 lb gotta get that guy the ball. If anything for next year.

I would like to see us find some more ways to get the ball in EB29's hands, whatever those are. And yes, news flash, Allie Laforce is hot

Why can't this staff get Evan Berry the ball on offense. I understand returning kicks is a different animal but can't they develop a play to get him the ball in space? The kid is dynamic. He is a threat every time he touches the ball.

Returning kicks has nothing whatsoever to do with being an offensive threat.... See Devin Hester and 50 other returners that it was tried with in the NFL...It is like saying this guy can play the drums really well and our horn section is struggling so lets put him on trombone.

Butch and staff have proven they know who is ready for what... they kept playing Jumper even though the super informed fans just knew he couldn't play... and how did that turn out? If you don't think the thought of him playing on offense hasn't crossed their minds you must be crazy they have tried him in practice believe that. There is a reason he does kickoffs and not punts (different skill set) just like there is a reason he is not playing offense.. we have more than enough weapons on offense and the moment our Oline gets things straightened out you'll see them in action. Byrd showed glimpses as well as Croom this week and we finally got Wolfe the ball too.

Our current biggest problem is not a lack of offensive weapons its time for the QB to get it to them.

It makes me wonder if he has problems with learning the playbook or something. He is just too good with the ball in his hands to be stuck solely on kick returns. Maybe the coaches are seeing problems at practice that we, as fans, are not privy to.
It's definitely something like that. I'd be shocked if the coaching staff has never thought about using Berry other ways.

Just because you're a great kick returner doesn't mean you'd be good on offense. Plus it's not like we have a shortage of playmakers on offense.

can we quit talking about this already?

I'm all for him getting more touches anyway how but they're not going to unless they are keeping a Berry wildcat package hidden away.

Lets face it. If the coaches feel that he is an absolute star with the ball, they'd get him the ball (hopefully). But kick returning is different than running routes or taking a hand off.

Evan is fine where he's at. People want to see him on offense because he has speed. Question is, what edge would Evan provide that Byrd cannot? By all accounts Byrd is the fastest player on the team.

Dust off the Kenny Oneal package?

When Tennessee put KO in the game, everyone in the stadium and 7 surrounding states knew a reverse was coming the next play. Somehow, it never worked.

Hell, I'd put him in occasionally and just use him as a decoy (fake reverse, etc) for awhile. Then suddenly throw him a quick screen...
