As it has been documented, Tiny has some core work to do before he qualifies, so is it possible that someone who is committed right now that may not qualify also, may not sign an LOI and instead be placed, so they don't count towards the final numbers?? That's the ONLY way I see it working out, if Tiny signs an LOI and is placed because of core work, and he would be an EE for next class in 2012. It's just a theory, so jump don't jump me about him not qualifying, because he very well may fully qualify, or may already be qualified.

Just some food for thought.

I also think Pat Martin had some problems wiith a test score. I know he retook the test last weekend I believe. So hopefully everything gets cleared with him. But that is another one I would watch out for with grades.

He could be one that goes with your sign and place theory. That would open up a spot. And we all know he is all Vol so he would still be around for 2012. That could be one reason the staff has took so many DB spots in this class because they might have known Martin had some academic issues. Complete speculation, but I'm just playing along.

He maybe a place only though, that's kinda what I am thinking, but it's all speculation. I can't wait to see him in orange either, he's a tough player and a great leader on the field. Hope he gets everything straightened out.

I don't know if it's an actual problem until August.

The problem is signed LOIs and how it relates to the 25 rule with the sign and places. We also won't know anything definitive on grades till June or later. It's a good problem to have, but I don't think Dooley wants to break any kid's heart at this point.

I agree with you about taking an extra DB b/c Lanier or Martin may not qualify, but I think the staff took a lot of DB's because our DB depth chart is really bad. With the 7 db's in this class including the two JC recruits we should be 3 deep in every DB position with 3-4 star players, predom. 4 stars (Jackson, Moore, Teague, Lanier, Gordan, Martin, Coleman, 3 stars - Randolph, Wagg., Anderson, Orta). Can't wait.

Alot of folks said our issue would be undersigning. Seems to be that will NOT be the case. Good call by Clear jumping on board tomorrow.

Wonder where this leaves Tino?

it was my understanding that we can have as many kids commit on nsd as we want. just have to get to or under the maximum by may 28th or something?

If he has to make room for a player that can help right away, he will. Period.

Just demonstrates to the recruiting world that Tennessee is a valuable commodity right now.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but Tino should be included in that list as well. I think the coaches did a great job evaluating him and offering him at our camp. 4.4 40 speed, 190lbs, 6'1, that's great size for a CB.

I don't disagree that there is a possibility that he may, but I've been told by several people who interact with coaching staff that we won't make anyone look around or sign over what we should.

We're entering Saban's world of over signing...read an article on over signing and a rule about making room through players with medical problems and unable to play (Cody P, etc). I don't have a good understanding of rule, but it appeared to be a way around the 25/yr + backcounts. My understanding is we are working with a 29 ceiling either way.

Dooley and co. I'm sure have a plan on how to deal with the good "problem."

Not true. Our absolute limit this year is 29 signees.

im not debating that. i was just pointing out that it has been my understanding that we have until may 28 (or whatever the date my be after nsd) to get to that number. i very well could be wrong and we may only be allowed to have 29 committed by nsd, just thought i heard it a bit differently elsewhere. or it could have something to do with LOIs. i.e. we can only have 29 sign, but we can have as many kids pledge their services to the vols as we want while we work out the numbers?

Both really...sarcastic that he left him off, but a real question...Something will have to give somewhere...I think Tino is solid to, but Dooley and co have killed it in the DB position. Do we take them all?

Would Crowder or Downs be willing to accecpt a lottery scholarship this year as in-state kids. They could then receive a full (football) ride next year.

I think you have to look at greyshirts for a DB or two. We need numbers, but a few of those guys are gonna redshirt anyway.

They can't because they're already enrolled on athletic scholarships. Its not a feasible solution. Also, the only way to pull that off would be for someone to walk-on, maybe Carson, but then you've got to read the NCAA rulebook religiously to make sure it isn't a violation.
