A 'Thank You' letter from Bruce Pearl
By UT RELEASE
March 3, 2006


Dear Tennessee fans,

It’s been an incredible ride so far this season! At the beginning of the season many people thought our team would finish in the bottom of the SEC East, but we proved them wrong — becoming the SEC East Champions. We owe a lot of that to you!

You’re energy and enthusiasm made a big difference for our team this year. The atmosphere at Thompson-Boling Arena was one of the best environments in college basketball. Wednesday’s human checkerboard was a great finale. I just wish we could have given you a win, but I know you appreciate the effort our players are giving.

I can’t begin to tell you how much your support has meant to our players, our coaches, our families and most of all our University. I appreciate all that you have done to help us make our first year such a success so far, and I look forward to many more years as YOUR coach.

"you're" energy and enthusiasm???? I am surprised an official letter from UT would have misused the contraction "you're"

LadyinOrange I never thought you made it up but it is seldom you see that in official documents. It is much more common for people to misuse "your". Almost anywhere you look you will see sentences such as "If your sure then go ahead". I am not an expert in grammar but I do know "your" is a possesive pronoun and "you're" is a contraction for "you are". I don't even know why that caught my attention since I know so little about grammar anyway.. LOL

:D I guess I Do not understand. what is the point in being critical of one word. It was a nice letter from the coach.

I don't think he was being critical, just surprised someone from the University or the paper didn't catch that.

Spell check treats "your" and "you're" and "yore" as equally valid no matter the context.

We all make the mistake of just running a document through spell check and sending it on without proofreading.

Personally, I think y'all are being too kind, and LIO ought to send him a notice.

Shouldn't he be held to at least the same standard she holds a bunch of adnoidal bumpkins like us to?

Many thanks to Coach Pearl for bringing real energy back in to our bb program.

Both from his players standpoint & his personal effort.

Real Coaching make real differences.

For bringing some pride back to VolHoops, thank you

For those orange suspenders, ties and blazers, thank you

To every one of those student athletes who went to the weight room before the sun was up. Then went out and ran,ran, and ran some more. Then went to practice and learned what role Pearl wanted them to play and worked to perfect their role, thank you

For the words "sold out" and Thompson-Boling Arena finally being in a sentence that didn't have a punch-line, thank you

For these words... "...We are your basketball team, and we're gonna kick Florida's @#$!!".... thank you

For working so hard in Gainesville that one gray suit is no longer of any use, even to Goodwill...thank you

For being so into the whole deal that even the national media cannot possibly ignore it, thank you

For 21-6... THANK YOU!

For a future so bright, we gotta wear shades, thank you

For getting a football fan to the point where he's cursing poll sites for not posting this weeks poll at the time they say they will, thank you

For whatever is yet to come in the next four or five weeks, thank you

It has been an amazing ride. I'm proud of Tennesee Basketball.
Everyone who has had anything to do with this season, from coaches and players to trainers, deserves a great BigOrange THANK YOU!!!
