Why do you consider that a good hire? He got fired by the Falcons after 3 straight losing seasons.

The offense hasn't been a problem at all. They were top 10 this year but I guess that isn't good enough. 8th in yards and 6th in scoring to be exact, which was #2 and #1 in the SEC.

Over/under on number of games into this next season before he loses playcalling duties (if he has them to begin with) or gets fired?

Meh, play calling has been okay. Situational calls though in some big spots are stupid and this isn’t the place for learning on the job. IE the Bama game at the half, if the clock isn’t a factor the play call perhaps works. The defense knew the play wasn’t going to be a run bc of the time.

The harsh fact of this game is you can call great plays 95% of the time and be fine UNLESS that 5% is against Bama. The OC I think has been pretty decent maybe not as good as we had before. Play calls like the one he made against Bama won’t be forgotten easily

This offense will continue to put up those numbers. Will it be able to control the clock, control the game and come up with that critical play when the game is on the line? I have my doubts. I think it’s easy to fall in love with those stats you mentioned and miss the fact that this offense has major problems.

What offense doesn’t have major problems?

Play calling has been OK, but we're nowhere close to '21 and '22 seasons. I'm not sure if it's Heupel not having faith in Halzle to take over the role completely, or if he believes his input is required on all play calling duties. Either way, something needs to change in a positive way.

Some of the other coaches in the conference have even made public statements that our offense has become "predictable". That's not a good look at all.

The GA game. After the turnover and Tennessee has the opportunity to increase the lead, yet they run the ball 3 straight times. The Timeout and froze our own kicker. SMH.

The goal line play against Bama.

Some may not agree with me on this one. The Florida game. I understand the game was played against the interim coach there and with the score at 31-0, why become complacent with that amount? If the roles were reversed, they would not have provided UT with the same respect. It's even one of our maxims - #7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.

Tennessee had the opportunity to drop 50+ on them and should have.

That’s your answer?

I’d take a little deeper look into the stats and some of the more successful teams out there. Penalties (specifically pre-snap). 3rd down conversion percentage. TOP. Those are stats that impress me more than having the most yards. I don’t see any of the big boys running to emulate Heupel’s offense.

Try answering my question. No offense is perfect. Again what was our offense ranked nationally? Time of possession is not an important stat. It’s useless. 3rd down conversion? We were 8th nationally.

You don’t see the big boys emulating Heupels offense??? That’s what you got? lol. Please don’t tell me you think just any team can emulate what Heupel does. So can you give where we ranked pre snap penalties wise nationally?

I can tell you we ranked 75th in penalties. In TOP we were 130. That sux. Emulate Heupel? Lots of penalties and inability to manage the clock? I think there’s a few that could pull that off. Tempo is a gimmick. One that’s run its course.

Georgia game I can at least see that. Your kicker most of the time is gonna nail that FG and end it.

Florida game I’ll give benefit of the doubt and say we were trying to get out of it healthy.

Defense was the issue, not the offense. Hence why we got rid of the DC.

Ruling ToP only works if you have a defense than can get off the field. Ours couldn't this year. So we had to run up the score and play the deep game.

Offensive play calling got way better this year than '24. Running fast ball didnt cause those two red zone pick sizes. And no way slow ball is going to throw passes at the end of the UGA game while in field goal range.

Quoting Neyland as an example of needing offense is laughable. Dude relied on shutting out opponents with maybe one TD of his own.

I’m pretty sure that was from ‘24. We added a lot of formations and motion this past season, we reduced the wide splits usage and we were productive offensively. Id like to see our rush offense to improve . This team was not a very good running team, even though the stats might say we were pretty good.

Heupel is 100% calling the shots on offense. I’m not sure why he has gotten more conservative and has tried to sit on leads more. He needs to go back to his philosophy in 2021 and 2022 where he urgently tried to score TDs every time we had the ball regardless of the score or the time left. I don’t buy any of these “buts” about Golesh, Hooker, the defense or whatever. Playing scared, playing not to lose never ends well. It’s 100% on Heupel and yes, there are improvements to be made on offense. Quit trying to be cute and just play with urgency on every series. Watch film on Indiana.

The Steelers offense was 25th out of 32 NFL teams for total offense this year. This was a horrible hire.
